I think those prices are pretty typical - maybe even on the low side. I used Sachiko Yanase (highly recommended!) and if I recall correctly she has a package for $1000 that includes up to 12 services - so 6 makeup, 6 hair, or however you want to structure it - and she stays with you for 10 hours to handle all touch ups etc.
I think they are pretty typical. I looked at tons of different before deciding on mine.. She is coming to us and does both hair and makeup. I don't have to hire different people. I'm using http://pinkcombsalon.com/ shes in the tri state area and had tons of great reviews...
@call_me_ktb: Those rates sound pretty reasonable, actually. Not sure how much lower you can get...
@call_me_ktb: Hey! I'm Queens based also (Astoria, woot!) In boxing you some info.
Hey! One of my friend's is a certified make-up artist in the NYC area. She worked at Sephora, but is looking for free-lancing work now.
Here's a photo of me on a photo shoot we did for an event last year. Sorry about the size of the photo! Let me know if you want to contact her for a price quote and I'll put you guys in touch!
Seems pretty typical for the Boston area, too. But yea, I think it's a bit pricey either way!

Hi Bees,
I have just begun my search for hair/makeup artists for the big day. I definitely want someone to come to my house the morning of and do their thing. I need help in determining what the typical NY area prices are. Both girls I've contacted so far seem somewhat pricey but I just don't know if that's standard for our location and the fact that they'd be coming to me.
1. the first option was just makeup. trial session $75, day of for the bride plus 5-7 other girls (if my entire BP decided to get makeup done) is $500. however, the minimum event fee - even if it's just me getting done - is $275. in all likelihood a few girls at least would want to get dolled up but if it wound up being just me i think that's ALOT!
2. the second girl i spoke with had the follow rates:
Bridal Hair (Day of Wedding) - $150
Bridal Make Up (Day of Wedding) - $150
Bridal Hair Trial- $75
Bridal Make Up Trial- $75
Bridal Party Hair- $100
Bridal Party Make up- $100
Lash application- $20
Is this typical or overpriced? I don't plan to force any of my girls to do either but if I were them I might feel that $200 for hair and makeup is pretty steep. What do you bees think?
