I have to say, this sure beats five lords a leapin' and a partridge in a pear tree!

Yes, last night he asked me to marry him and I said YES!

Here's the way our story happened.

We left around 5:45 to go to dinner at Canoe (our fave special occasion restaurant) and when we got there, the gentleman who seated us said,  "Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. X".  I thought it was funny b/c everybody assumes we're married because hey, we're a tad older ok?

Anyhow I figured he was just being sweet last night because I am on call at the hospital on NYE and that's our anniversary (2 years dating) weekend and that he was just celebrating it early.

Dinner was wonderful and I have to say I was nervous, but not scary nervous.  The waiter asked us if we wanted dessert and he said no.  I wondered what was coming up if anything next.  Well to my surprise when he asked for the check they brought out a plate of warm cookies and written on the plate was "Happy Anniversary" (his nickname for me is Cookie btw).  I thought this was sweet and all that was going down.  Seriously!

Next he said we had to go home for a bit (his house) and that he thought he left the fireplace on.  So we went there and he said "I think we should stay in.  I was going to take you out somewhere else afterward to celebrate our anniversary but let's just cuddle by the fireplace since I think I left it on.

We went in and it was on.  And so was the Christmas tree (but he always left that on too last year).  We sat there on the floor laughing about some things and he said, "J, the last two years have been wonderful and I love you, us, and son.  You mean the world to me and I can't wait until we're all here together opening presents under the tree next year." 

One thing T and I love to do is have a Christmas village.  He has his set up under the tree and at my house it's set up on a ledge.  However when I looked around under the tree, all I saw was one piece of the village set up.  It was the old-fashioned church.  I said "Can we get the rest of the village up tonight?  We also need to work on the mantles and get them decorated (always into that stuff am I).  He said "Well just a minute.  Hold on I'll be back in a bit.

He walks into the other room and I'm all of a sudden having a wierd feeling.  He comes back in and sits down beside me with a silver bag.  He leans over to me (we're sitting on pillows by the fireplace beside thee tree) and says, "You know it's not our anniversary tonight.  But it's a new anniversary and that's why I had the staff at Canoe tell you that.  This is a new one."

At that point I got kinda swirly.  A little dizzy in fact.  He sat on one knee and pulled out a box.  It was larger than a ring box and I didn't know what to think as he's tossed out plenty of curve balls before.  I actually thought it was earrings at this point.  But then he opened the box and inside it was a beautiful blue box..and it hit me THIS IS A RING BOX.

He then looked at me directly in my eyes (got that crazy swirly, dizzy feeling again) and he said "If you agree, today can be our new anniversary.  The anniversary of our engagment.  I love you J, I want to be with you forever and your son my son.  Will you be my wife?"

I, not a woman who cries often at all, got dizzy and teary all at once.  I did cry. And he opened the box and before me was the ring!  And in case you don't remember, I did not set one foot inside any jewelry store. 

It turns out he had been paying this baby off for six months btw! 

He said to me "You said you wanted a round stone and something classic.  I designed this myself (it's a custom setting) and it is to be a daily reminder of certain things.  The 3 stones are for our past, present, and future together, and it's also a reminder of your new family.  Your son, me, and you!"

I was still crying when he put it on my finger and it fit.  Perfectly.

It still hasn't sunken in yet.  My family is on cloud 9.  So is my sister and bff's.  My sister is so excited and immediately after I told her, her first words were "We have to get a date down now.  And a venue.  This is a priority and now!  Do you think you'll be the only woman with a new sparkly ring after Christmas?  Places book up fast!" (she's such a planner..lol!)

My mom and grandparents are so happy and my bff and sis are excited today b/c we're going to take a road trip in about 2 mos to go look at wedding dresses!

I want to thank all of you.  You've been so kind and loving to me and accepting as I  think I hold the record for the longest "waiting" bee here.  It's been a unique journey over the last year and I am excited in sharing the rest of this life journey with you now and in the new year to come.

I love it too.  for some reason, I'm not getting the 100 percent sparkle factor as of yet in the pics.  It's so pretty!

I did a huge "eeeee" after I got it.

Second part of the story is I did get dizzy.  Really dizzy.  He had to go get me a glass of water and then I had to lie down for a bit.

It's kinda big on my hand, but it's gorgeous.  Center is 2.5 and sides are 1.5 each.  But it's such a simple setting.  I love it.  Classic!

We called my son last night and he was jumping up and down and so excited.  He loves T and is so happy.  He kept saying over the phone "I love you mom.  I love you T".

I'll probably make some pics tonight at the party we're going to.  It's a business party and what's so cool is he gets to say (when he introduces me) that I'm his FI!

That's so great.  

It's not even the size or the sparkle factor that I care about.  It's how he made the ring to have meaning.  It's a message about us. I could care less about size.  But yes, he did amazing. 

And I didn't walk into any jewelry store at all!  How wild is that?

Thanks Erin.  It seriously hasn't sunken in yet.  I woke up with a bad sinus headache today (almost migraine) and am just now feeling decent.

It feels funny to have something on my left hand.  He did do a great job.  All by himself!  I'll need all the wedding advice I can get..and yours was so gorgeous, pardon me if I bombard you with questions in the coming months!  :)

Thanks GWAR! These are my first and imho lame attempts at ring porn! I'm going to scour the pro tutorial a bit later.  Maybe tomorrow.

We're going to wait a few days and relax and get some more of the holidays under our belts before we dive head first into the planning.  But luckily since I pre-planned alot if it, (style, design, season, colors etc) it won't be terribly hard.  Just locking down venue and then coordinating the big move to his house (gasp...just realized I have to move..I hate moving!)

That's hilarious.  I wouldn't have at all been offended.  It takes alot to p*ss me off.  And in fact, I think that's really sweet of that person!

But what I'm really psyched about is the upcoming (in end of Feb) ROAD TRIP!!! The wedding gown search road trip.

I got up this am with a bad headache (about 6 am) and called him.  I am not sure if it was from all the excitement (gotta be careful getting us old gals too excited yanno?  We may blow a gasket!) or from a sinus headache.
