I am a little skeptical about this working, but its worth a try right????? lol
Tonight I am cooking my man engagement chicken, I would cook him the apple pie too but he is a celiac so Ill have to come up with something else lol.
does anyone know what the time frame for the supposed engagement is supposed to be???
I told my friend that I was making this tonight and she was like....you shouldn't rush the engagement and I was like...shut up you are already engaged, you wouldnt understand lol
so here's to all my waiting ladies!
Good luck! I don't think you are rushing engagement because you are cooking for your man. I think she may just want the spotlight just for herself.
Oooh, good luck! I wanted to make it for us yesterday, but it didn't work out. Now I'm having eye surgery tomorrow, so it'll be a while before I can make it! It seems to happen within 1-3 months, but that's just my own observation. Keep us posted! :)
i'm not sure what he's able to eat, but they do have gluten free pie crusts. and i used an all purpose gluten free flour that i got from whole foods that you can just substitute for any flour and put it in my pie crust recipe, it was delish! good luck!
@trugem-ahhh good point, never though about that!
and I will definitely keep yall posted!
I dont know how fast it works but ummmm can i come over for dinner? :)
come on now... whole bird can never compare to chicken tacos :)
Seriously-- if i could find a place that would allow outdoor catering I would have mexican!! As it stands I think we're going to do rehersal dinner at the mexican joint. mmmmm
I'm officially keeping an eye on this thread for the future. If and when the engagement happens, this thread will be proof to the wonderous engagement chicken. GL.
mmmm i love mexican food, nothing better than margaritas and enchiladas lol
@catlady- yay i hope it works lol
I have been wanting to make it, I think we'll be having chicken and pie in the next 2 weeks. GOOD LUCK!!!
I'm also Celiac if you have any questions. I love the frozen pie crusts from whole foods! Otherwise, the best mix is GF pantry (the one w/ the white & turquoise stripes.)
What IS engagement chicken? I hear that there's another room in the house, besides the kitchen, that will work wonders on your man!
Good luck!
I won't be making engagement chicken, no matter how hard my finger itches, even if I scratch it through to the bone! I don't care for chicken or really any meat that is on a bone, other than fish.
I saw a rotisserie lemon pepper chicken at walmart the other night, and thought "hrm, if I bought one of these and slipped it on the table, would it work? Only I would know..."
supposedly it's six months after you make it, i think the power of the hive (willing it to happen) is what has shortened the time... for those interested i'll post the link with the recipe... i made mine about two months ago and nada yet... we'll see... lol!!
"engagement chicken," at the very least, will be a delicious meal. It's super yummy and moist. I made it a couple months ago, but I'm still waititing!!
oh, and honeybear...i LOVE margaritas and enchiladas!! unfortunately, my bf isnt a big fan of mexican food, so I rarely get to eat them!
Good luck!
I made it for my man back in August....Still waiting.
But I must add, you have to cook it longer than suggested. I learned it the hard way when SO put it back in to cook it longer and basically took over...wonder if that means I'm supposed to propose to him...LMAO
I will be watching this thread for updates and also memorizing the recipie! lol... Maybe our next romantic dinner @ home will be Engagement Chicken!
This is hilarious - I have never heard of engagement chicken before, but I hope that for your sake it works!
This post is making me soooo hungry... yum! Good luck with the engagement chicken! I *almost* did this before I was engaged, but then I got lazy hehe. ;)
Woohoo!!! Keep us posted! I thought about making this for FI before we got engaged...maybe I should just make it now...it sounds so good!!!
Dinner was yummy, now let the magic begin lol
I was a little skeptical that it would taste as good as it did cause it seemed like a really simple recipe.
BF even went back for seconds lol
@honeybear: wtg!!! M loved it as well!! I started a recipe exchange in the newlywed section (ironic I know!!) but he likes a lot of the recipes from there that i have tried.
I hope it works! Man, i should've made engagement chicken tonight.... that is an AWESOME idea!
I made mine July 28 and was proposed to on August 1...so you never know! Hehe!! Me and my fi were actually interviewed about it for a Glamour story coming out next month.. I hope it works for you!!
@sweetheartdealer: btw ladies she was the inspiration for my original post!! hmmm it worked three days later for you, you must have done something differently with your chicken lmao, was it you that stuck an onion up it's patootie?! I guess we'll see what happens for me (and the rest of the ladies) lol Glamour could probably do an entire spread.. can you imagine the hate mail?! oh these ladies are nuts blah blah blah blah... lol to which we can give them the finger, ring finger that is!!!
If I had known about engagement chicken I so would have been making it 1x/ week for my FI this past spring! Recipie? I have some friends I could pass it along to!
@mrs. starfish: here it is http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/engagement-chicken
Ok, I'm jumping on the engagement chicken bandwagon and am making it tonight! Good to know that it takes longer than advertised... I just flipped the bird after the first 15 minutes and it still looks pale! :) I think it'll definitely take longer than 35 minutes to brown up and cook thoroughly.
Hahaha I love these Engagement Chicken stories, I'm so dying to try this recipe "on" him! I'm wating for BF to move into his new apartment, our first dinner will definitely include EC as the main dish!
