On the verge of tears. I need Help

posted 6 months ago in Beehive

Hello all brides out there...

I am super stressed right now because I just received my bridesmaids' dresses in the mail and they turned out to be a MEGA DISASTER. I don't know how to save them -- the fabric turned out to be shiny and when the maids' tried them on, they all just ended up looking like pink elephants. I already spent over $560 on 3 dresses...so I can't afford to spend that much more if I"m going to buy new bridesmaid dresses for the girls.

My colour theme is fuschia, chartreuse green and chocolate brown. The dress colour was to be a soft pale pink with a fuschia colored hem. It didn't turn out that way =((((. This is the last time I ever order anything online. I had ordered the fabric swatches too! One maid suggested the dying route, but that again is quite risky....

Does anyone know of a place that currently has a sale for bridesmaid gowns?? I am located in Toronto, Canada and the wedding is in early August -- time is of the essence!!!!

Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks so much!

How about going an uncoventional route? Like pretty sundresses from Target?  I kinda wish that is what I had done!

can they be saved with a sash to cinch them in?  Or a cute girlie cardigan...or something?

Have you tried contacting the vendor who sold them to you? what did they say? If a seamstress cinches them in can that help them.

I'll put on my thinking cap....Don't cry- there's always a solution.

Hi!  I'm so sorry to hear about your situation!  You can try going online to nordstrom.com; they always have sales for dresses and they ship fairly quickly too.   Or you can try davidsbridal.com.  They have a sales section with nice dresses that you might want to try looking at too.

Do  you have a picture of the bridesmaid dresses?  What sizes do they come in?  I might be interested in purchasing them from you.

I also love the idea of an inexpensive/re-wearable dress...So many cute choices....

I got my pink bridesmaids dresses from Ann Taylor and they are wonderful!  They are on sale right now for $118 and if you sign up for emails you can easily get a coupon for additional discounts.

Ann Taylor is having a dress sale right now as well.  They have four dresses on sale that come in various shades of light pink:

Can you send the dresses back?  Check the return policy quick!  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can.

I also live in Toronto and happened to see some pale pink dresses at the Winners at Front and Yonge on Saturday.  They were Calvin Klein and looked like a silky satin material.  They were 79.99.  Only thing is that I only noticed sizes 4 and 12, but I didn't look that carefully.  There were definitely 4 or 5 there in that colour and style. It might be worth a look.

They were similar to this style (not the same) but pale pink.  Best of luck!

I just found this cute soft pink lace slip dress at target for only 34.99. It looks like it would be simple, and best of all, super-cheap! You could probably even afford to buy some fuschia ribbon to wrap around the waistline to keep with your original colors, and maybe if you get really lucky, some cute fuscia shoes? I found some cute ones at target here and here. I don't think the Target website ships to Canada, but I do know they ship very quickly, so maybe you could have them shipped to a friend in the states, and then shipped to you?

Hope I could help!

Washing silk tends to dull the sheen, maybe you could try hand-washing them in Woolite and see if it takes the shine down enough?

dying them brown might be a safe bet...and you could buy a sash in pink..or if any of you know how to sew you could make them by buying the sash fabric (satin, silk).

Also, check any Fabricland they usually have tuts on how to do stuff like dying fabrics.

In Canada we do not have Target...but I was at Zellers on saturday and have pretty summer dresses...$39.99...

What kind of wedding is it? Outdoors, indoors, elegant, black tie, casual?

Thank you all so much for your wonderful suggestions. It made me feel so much better.

Dugg -- thank you for the tip on the CK dress at Winners. I actually went to that store and found the dress and they were just lovely and the shade of pink was just so pretty. I picked up 2 of them for 2 of my maids and they just need to be altered to fit. I now still need to look for a dress that's similar for my MOH.

MissyJenn -- the vendor for the original dresses were Aria Dress. I am not trying to badmouth anyone here, but the bottom line is the dresses just didn't come up to snuff.

MsJadey -- the 3 dresses I ordered were all different styles, and the sizes were 0, 4, and 16? I don't have a picture right now as the dresses are currently with the maids, but if you are still interested, I can get a picture of 1 of them over the weekend. Pls send me a message.

So, I guess I'm slowly getting there...oh and the wedding is simple, elegant yet contemporary. For those of you in Toronto, you may be familiar with Jamie Kennedy at the Gardiner Museum. The ceremony and reception will be held indoors there.

Thank you all so much again from the bottom of my heart -- the search continues for the last dress....

I'm surprised that you weren't pleased with Aria- our dresses are from there and they arrived a few weeks ago and are gorgeous in person.  Were you able to see them in one of their storerooms before you ordered them?  I'm sorry they were a disappointment, but I hope you find a happy conclusion!  Good luck!
