This has been a stressful two days, and it looks as though the next few days are going to be pretty stressful too.
It started yesterday. I wasn’t feeling well. I was having a lupus flare, so I was staying home and letting Jim do all the running. So when I pick up Tia (our Pomeranian) to put her on the bed with me and discovered her side was bleeding, I freaked. Jim wasn’t home, I couldn’t drive, and my poor sweet baby was injured.
I did my best to clean the area, and discovered it was some kind of a puncture wound. I immediately called Jim to have him come home. She had to go to the vet, and it was already 3:15. One of the problems with Lupus, is it seems to affect my ability to think straight. I couldn’t find the last vet bill, and I didn’t know the phone number of the vet to call. When Jim got home, we called the vet, but only less than a half hour to get her there before they closed.
The good news was she hadn’t been attacked by anything. She probably was hurt by a stick or something. The bad news was it is infected, and she has to be on antibiotics for the next ten days, plus we have to clean the wound daily and put cream on it.
The poor thing has not eaten all day because the meds affect her appetite. And now that the wound area has been shaved, it itches, and when she scratches it hurts. She’s so clingy and completely not herself. Oh, and to top it off, she has fleas–something she’s never had in the 7 years I’ve had her!!!
Then today, we take Jasper (our cat) to the vet for his annual shots. We talk to the vet about him being constipated a lot. The vet feels Jaspers tummy and tells us that he has about 10 inches of stool backed up in his bowls. I explained to the vet that three years ago I had taken him in and he had been completely backed up and had to stay at the vet for several days to have it removed. (I know, it’s gross.) So now we have to give Jasper a stool softener for the next three days, and give him a full tablespoon of Benefiber everyday. If he doesn’t start going poo every day within the next three weeks, then the vet says we’ll have to take a more aggressive treatment.
I did feel better when the vet said Jasper’s problem may be a condition that he’s had since he was a kitten and not because we’ve been bad parents.
Anyway, so now I have two babies that are needing a lot of attention right now and who are not in the best of health. Ugh!!! I just want them to be happy and healthy!!!!!!
