He can usually sign up for a payment plan so not all of it is due at once. You can still apply for the FAFSA after the date usually (I did it like a week before schools started) and usually the school will work with you to do a deferrment till financial aid gets worked out.
I hear ya! My FI can't get his car inspected because of his muffler. He bought a new muffler and we have taken it now to 3 different places and no one will weld it on. Say they can't do it because the car (Camero) is too small under there to fit the new muffler.. excuse after excuse. And he has had the AC worked on twice now and it broke again. Frustrating. He needs a new car but we don't have the money right now to do it. Maybe when we get his house sold/leased we can.
The school said they couldn't because of all the last minuet sign ups. This makes me wonder what they're getting at! = /
Yeah, My FI's plates expired on the 31st, and we can't afford to get those renewed either. So I know how that one is, too!
that is really wierd. Did he talk to financial aid or someone else? Last minute sign up? lol....maybe they have too many people in their school. I know our local community college usually is at 4000 but this semseter they are bursting at the seams with 6000 students...
hmmm. i took out more aid for the fall semester as late as october! i know at my school you had to camp out in their offices for them to do some work for you! maybe he can try to talk to someone else...
See? That's what I don't get. He had to fight with them last time for them to even file his paper work properly. He talked to financial aid, AND a student advisor.
He's calling his lendor now to see if they say anything different. The school says MAYBE they can get him winter aid.
Ugh! I hate dealing with schools and financial aid stuff! The deadlines are never straight forward and nobody seems to really want to help you out. I sure hope you and your FI get all of this sorted out!
I work at a university and there does become a point where the Financial Aid Office just may not work with you. Most schools have priority deadlines of March 1 for the FAFSA submission. HOWEVER, your fiance should still be able to qualify for loans. Although I'm sure all grants and scholarships (an any other free monies) have already been given out, he can always apply for the federal loans. Whether or not the university is willing to work with him at this point is a matter of their policy.
Either way, I'm sorry that this is adding additional stress to your life. Good luck with everything!
:( I'm sorry... school is the BIGGEST stress in our lives right now, so I can't imagine what this adds to a wedding!
I am so with you! My DH has his tuition due the first of every month (payment plan) and that is AFTER FAFSA that he applied for last January! We're going to be so strapped, and we have to move to LA in a month!! Where are we getting the money? AH!
Argh, what a pain in the behind!! I agree with other Bees, I would not give up just yet and hound the Financial Aid people a bit longer. You know what they say about the squeaky wheel!
that'is terrible! i'm sorry. he's not the only one, a lot of my friends lost their financial aid too...damn you, economic crisis!
I know this doesn't help too much in the school department, but I just wanted to give you a heads up about your cat's shots!
If you have a Petco around you they usually do subsidized shots every Saturday or every other Saturday. I think I got my dog four different shots including rabies for a total of $50. I know they have packages for cats too and they were cheaper than the dog packages. Visit their website for all the info! Hope it helps :)
Before my FI transfered to community college he was going to the Art Institute here. That was $300 a month AFTER Financial aid and finally we just couldn't afford it. Luckily we got all of his parents info and we are hoping that we'll be able to at least get a federal loan. What threw us off is it doesn't specify when they send you the paper work that it was for the fall term as well, not just the summer.
If I could afford for the cat to have his shots, he would have had them already. But another $50 would probably put us on the street. We're alreading chosing to pay rent over paying our insurance on time. It pretty much sucks when it comes down to picking and choosing which bills you will pay. Normally we have rent paid by now, but we'll be turning it in on the last day it won't be considered late.
Money sucks. The world should run off chocolate bars!
Also, for your cat's shots, see if there is an SPCA near you. The mobile unit usually gives out shots for almost nothing, or even free.
Hopefully your FI can at least take classes for the winter term. The sooner he's done with school, the sooner he can start making more money! It seems like a lot of people are staying in school longer or going back to school since the job market is so tight right now.
About the cats.. SPCA is the cheapest, that's where I go. If you have inside cats, you can go a long time delaying the shots and don't feel guilty about it. If you have outside cats, that's when you really need to worry.
I hope the school stuff works out! I would offer advice on that but I have none :(
He can still apply for the FAFSA. Tell him to go directly to fafsa.gov and apply today - they will then communicate with the school.

My FI just called to say he can't get everything straightend out for financial aid this term. He was supposed to apply in May but he skipped doing it because he thought that was just for the summer term. He tried to tell me he was going to register for classes and I freaked!
Maybe we would have been able to afford it on our own-if I hadn't just gotten knocked out of work for a week because I got sick not even 3 days after we came home from a 4 day trip in AZ where we spent pretty much all we had. How the heck can wa pay for classes if he's not sure how we are going to pay our other bills for the next month and a half?
And I just got a letter from the vet saying my cat is due for 2 yearly shots. And we all know that those don't really come cheap.
Now I feel bad because he won't be going to school this semester. All this wanting to move, needing money, him not going to school drama is starting to add up in a not so fun way. Arrrrgh!
