same about the lettuce??!! i know you should drink water and stick to fresh fruits (mostly berries and melons) and veggies (lots of greens). try to go raw if you can.....with the fruits and veggies that is. you'll lose weight (not that you need to), have tons of energy and your skin will just G.L.O.W.

Avoid processed foods!  (they're high in salt - including the sweet ones)

Can anyone verify that high fiber foods make you bloated and explain why?

I have been eating tons of strawberries and cantalope and it's seemed to help a lot with the bloating.  Tons of water too.

As for the fruits and veggies, I've heard that canned is better.  Obviously to with the natural juice or light syurp.  The reasoning is that it's easier and quicker to digest.  Also, if you cave in and do get bloated they make special pills/tablets to help with that.  Just check like Wal-Mart or Walgreens or somewhere similar.

um. i just read that brocolli and cauliflower are gassy foods, so stay away.

soontobemrsf: i'd have to disagree with canned fruits and veggies. since they are preserved, there is a high content level of sodium-----not good if you want to stay bloat free. and the syrup contains sugar----also a no-no. best to stay away from preserved/processed food.

when it comes to frutis and veggies, it's best to stay natural, and go raw if you don't mind the taste.

    stay away from the whites:

    rice---sugar---salt----flour

jillian michaels has a great one week plan in one of her books.  it basically takes out all salt, refined flours/sugars or any other "bloating foods" and has you drink 80+oz of water each day.  i plan on doing it the week before!

<span style="font-family: tahoma, verdana; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic;">IA_Snowflake - fiber contains high amounts of soluble fiber and so this means that when the fiber is in your body it absorbs water and will go through your entire digestive tract with that water!

I was eating salmon twice a week sometimes 3 times a week for the last 2 months and I noticed that I was never ever bloated. Maybe it was really the salmon as mentioned above? I didn't know that. Also, I was eating lots of arugula and spinach + lemon too.

@rachelandviktor i am out of town for the weekend but when i get home i will get the info for you!  i have read all her books so i can't recall which specific book its in at the moment :)

@st. patrick actually i try to drink about 75 ounces each day in general (i have a large blue 25oz cup and my daily goal is to refill three times!)  i had to build up to that and yes, in the begining i peed about every 15 minutes! i would go, and then ten minutes later be bursting again!  but now i am used to it and on days when i don't drink that much water i feel super sluggish and not myself.  i can see that if you went from drinking a small amount to 80oz a day it would be pretty crazy though!!!

You should stay away from high-fiber foods only if you are introducing it into your diet (for the next week).  It can make you have stomach cramps, bloating, etc. if you eat too much of it all at once (yes, this has happened to me).  However, if you've been eating foods with high-fiber for a while, I doubt that it will have affect you over the next week.

@rachelandviktor- the 7 day diet plan is in "Making The Cut" which i got on amazon for about $7.  it has an exact plan for what to eat the 7 days before a big event you want to look amazing at.  and the plan actually has you drinking 100oz of water a day, not 80!!

I agree with Remi. High-fiber foods will make you gassy and bloaty if you are not used to them but if you eat at leat 25-30 grams of fiber a day already your body is pretty used to it.

My Mom's Doctor (yes my wedding is 11 months away and my mother is asking what she should stop eating to prevent bloat....) told her to avoid salt, complex carbs (bread and pasta were major no's) and alcohol. If you broccoli frequently is shouldnt bloat you, but if you eat it once in a while, stay away from it. Same with onions.

I'd drink lots of water, eat lots of raw veggies and fruit. Different flavored vinegars are a good way to add flavor without adding lots of calories or salt.

Good luck! I'm sure you will look lovely on your wedding day!

I've noticed that apples make me a little...un-skinny feeling too...oddly enough...an apple a day WON'T keep the bloat away...
