So, I thought I would share my online dress shopping success story with those who might be worried.
I am a budget bride, and I wanted an all-over lace dress with little or no beading. I first looked into sites like recycledbride.com hoping to find something I could love and also afford. The thing is, most brides still wanted a good price on a used dress, and most of them had been altered so that they would not fit my proportions (short, busty, and thin). For brides with closer to average proportions, I would say GO for this option but make sure you pay attention to what measurements the used dress was altered.
I went to David’s Bridal with my MIL and a friend, and tried on a few styles to see if what I liked actually looked good on me. I also got a good feel for what size I wore.
Then, I started looking online again, and saw a very nearly perfect dress on David’s Bridal site… I had to give up dresses with bottom details that I loved b/c I was not willing to pay a lot for alterations BUT the dress I found was on sale, did not have bottom details, and they had some left in my size. I took a chance and ordered it… and it fit!
I still have to have it hemmed, but that’s about it unless I manage to lose a little weight before I get it altered. Woohoo, success! AND I spent less than $450 for my dress before alterations!
