I think it’s important (if you can) to try dresses on and get a feel for what u like. Dresses I LOVED online weren’t the same as ones that flattered my body in real life, or that I really liked in person. There are hundereds of dressses I liked online and a handful I liked on me.

I didn’t purchase my gown online as I feel it’s too big of an investment to not try on the dress beforehand. There are plenty of beautiful dresses online, it’s just a matter of what your tastes are. Maybe try looking at Nordstrom and BHLDN. Nordstrom has an amazing return policy so maybe that extends to wedding dresses as well. Maybe you can check out their website to see if they will allow you to return the dress if you don’t like it.

SharpBee:  Have you considered looking at bridesmaids dresses (but in white)? You might have more online options that way.

I bought my dress from http://www.bestbridalprices.com, which is the online version of Frew’s Bridal (a brick and mortar store in Illinois).  I was very happy with the process, and I love the dress.  I did go to a couple of local stores beforehand to get a feel for what styles and colours suited me best, but none of them stocked the brand of the dress I wanted, so I purchased it online without trying it on first.  Slightly risky, but fortunately it worked out for me.

SharpBee:

I really think its important to buy from legitimate sites so you don’t risked getting screwed in the end. I listed some here I would also maybe check out vintage dresses on Etsy I have seen some gorgeous ones.

New York dress is a cool site because it is a licesnsed retailer of legitimate designers so you get the real dress just like from a boutique not a chinese knock off.

Also BHLDN

And Aria Dress

And vintage dresses from Etsy – you usually have to do some digging to find good ones but worth it

I got mine from bridepower.com, I had a great experience and they sent me extra photos by e-mail and were great about answering any questions I had. I highly recommend them!

etsy – my wedding dress was custom made and it was just perfect!

Cost approx $300 inc. petticoat – just right for my low-budget wedding.

Tip: make sure to check reviews of the seller first

I got mine from preownedweddingdresses.com because bestbridalprices wouldn’t be able to ship mine to me in time!

Modcloth has some inexpensive, more backpack friendly options.  I know you have to pay a shipping and handling fee to return, but it’s not the end of the world. http://www.modcloth.com
