I went dress shopping yesterday. I should preface this by saying I HATE to shop. I’m a country girl and heading into a crowd of people is not exciting for me. To be honest I didn’t even know what size I wore.
So we started the day at David’s Bridal. I went into the madhouse, added my name to the list. Looked at dresses for 45 minutes and decided I had had enough. To be honest I didn’t really like any of the dresses I saw. I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl and we’re having a budget, rustic wedding in a barn. I wasn’t really sure what to think of the dresses I looked at. After 45 minutes I said screw this, I’m out of here. On the way home my mom and Maid/Matron of Honor convinced me to at least stop at the mall while we were out to look for bridesmaid dresses (I want informal sundresses). While at the mall I found this dress at JCPenneys. I took 3 sizes in with me and tried on the one in the middle and it fit, perfectly. It looks great on me, I feel beautiful in it, I don’t need to lose any weight and even if I lost or gained a few pounds the corset back would let me hide it. The dress is $150, no alterations would be neccessary.
My question to y’all is your opinion on buying the first wedding dress you try on, would you do it??

great find! i bought the first dress i tried on, but i tried on many more in between. as long as you’re confident and love the dress, there’s no problem!

I bought the first dress I tried on. The first time I went alone with one of my bridesmaids, the second time I knew which one I wanted when I brought my family along and tried on a couple more for them…I still love my dress 🙂

That dress is very cute! What a great deal!

I say go for it! I tried on 4 dresses and only went shopping once at a small hometime bridal store during the middle of a snow storm. Needless to say I was the only one there. 🙂 I bought the last dress I tried on because it was simple and my style.

That’s an awesome dress! I was just there yesterday and saw it and I was wondering if anyone would snatch it up to get married in :).
To answer your question-no, there’s no way I would have stopped after the first dress. That’s just my personality, though. You got a great dress at a fantastic price and it happened to be the first one you tried on! That’s a great combination :).

If you feel and look amazing in it & you’re obviously getting a great price I say go for it!!

@lessons: Congrats on the dress! It doesn’t sound like you will, but don’t go try on more dresses now! Just love the one you have 🙂

I am TOTALLY a “the one” person. If I try something on and it looks great, I stop looking. I am that way with everything from jeans to evening wear. If you tried this one on and loved it, then buying it and going with your first instinct is perfect imo! Great find btw. I hope I am that lucky!!! 🙂

My mom constantly reminds me that this is how she shopped for her wedding gown. She also hates to shop, so she and my dad went to Macy’s and tried on about 3 dresses. She had one picked out in under an hour, and that was the end of the dress shopping! I am not like my mom, but I was hoping her story would help you! 🙂

@pengoala – Thanks your mom’s story sound pretty similair to my own! It’s funny how some people LOVE the dress shopping part while others can’t wait to get that item checked off the to-do list 🙂
