OOPS...is my dress to fancy pants for my ranch venue?

    Help please bees!

I am in LOVE with my dress and already bought it last week. But since then I am having doubts if it fits my venue, bridesmaids, and overall 'feel' of the wedding.

I guess I should give you a little background. I live in Central Oregon and am getting married on a quaint, working cattle ranch with a 100+ year old barn in tiny Sisters, OR. Love it! We are doing a rustic, simple theme with bbq, a live country band and lots o' mason jars and vintage glass. I am wearing my cowboy boots with my dress.

I originally wanted a dress that was lace and vintagey, but PLAIN! Absolutely no bling, flowers, sparkle, NADA. No strapless and no corset. PLAIN!

And what did I fall in love with? The GATSBY which has ALL of above! (I have no idea how that happened but I couldn't take the darn thing off and bought it on the spot)

Here is a pic of me in the sample. I am getting the champagne colored version, not the ivory I am in (didn't actually see that color...eek) So sorry for the long post, but is this too fancy pants for my venue and boots??

Here is a link to the photo. Kodak wouldn't let me download the pic out of a slideshow.

I also couldn't get it to load (Mac). I actually like the contrast of extravagant dresses and quant venues. I think it looks just lovely. Of course, that might not be "traditional" or "etiquette". :)

Sorry the pic of me in it wouldn't work! But yes, that is my dress. It will be champagne colored and I don't think I will wear the straps.

    Thanks for the input!

I think your derss is beautiful! I think it'll look great with your cowboy boots, especially with the waist ribbon-belt.

Oh sweetie, it's perfect! You're the star anyway! If it were a big ballgown I would worry, but since it's so sleek, it's a great fit :)

I think it'll look perfect! I was expecting a poofy princess with all kinds of bedazzles... It looks exactly right for your venue and shoe choice. Plus it looks stunning on you - ALL that matters. :)

It's perfect.  I had a outdoor reception at a lodge building in a park and yet I ended up with a big poufy ballgown and even that still fit in.  It a wedding!  You're supposed to look gorgeous in an amazing dress.

It's not "fancy". I htink it's very under stated. Perfect for your event.

    @brideatbeach: me too!

I don't see this as being very far off from vintage or lace-y at all! Actually I would very much classify it as a vintage look. I think it will be perfect!

Oh and, I love Sisters!! I used to vacation there every summer with my family. What a great place for a wedding! :D

@Randi Aud:  OMG!!!!   I LOVE that dress and it is PERFECT for a ranch wedding with you wearing boots.

    No foolin!

I live near "ranch land" as well and I would absolutely pick that dress to wear with boots.  It has clean lines, great lace detail, and the waist line is very "western feeling" to me.  Cowgirl boots will set it off brilliantly.

@Randi Aud...yes, she and Chris shot our wedding.  Is she doing yours?  Our wedding was in the Spring 2010 issue of Oregon Bride so you could have seen the dress/bouquet pictures there too and I think she had a print of one of our photos up in Umpqua Bank last year as well.  Let me know if you have any questions or need/want information.

I think it's beautiful and perfect for the venue! I can understand your worry but while I was planning my wedding I started to see that with the other elements/themes coming into play, one thing maybe not fitting exactly right in your head (yes, even the dress), probably will end up working beautifully without being to themed/matchy matchy.

Thanks Bees! I love this site because everyone is just so dang helpful!

@sadie - I have seen Kimberly Kays work because she has done a friend's wedding and her stuff is everywhere around here! I also browsed a ton of local photographers sites to get decor ideas and followed her blog. I also saw you in Oregon Bride...Your wedding was gorgeous by the way! How funny that we meet on wedding bee.

Sadly, Kimberly Kay is booked solid and we are going with someone else locally.

I hope you and your guests loved Bend? I do :)

@Randi Aud...Thanks so much!  We absolutely LOVE Bend and our guests really enjoyed it too...many of our East Coast guests had never been.  We head down at least 1-2 times a year.  Who did you end up booking for your photography?  There are definitely great choices (I loved Stott Shots, but they were booked, Kubota was out of our price range.  I also really liked Benjamin Edwards' work.)  Faith at Leaf and Petal did our flowers, she was fantastic to work with.  Please make sure you post pictures after your big day...would love to see your Sisters wedding in all it's glory!
