Ohhh beautiful locations (and amazing food)!
Will most people be staying in Scotia or Albany? If Scotia - I think Jumpin' Jacks is open by then (but I'd call to verify)... maybe a couple coupons for a free treat (I think they have popcorn, ice cream and cotton candy), right across the street from Glen Sanders on the river.
Def include Saranac soda (or beer!). If they will be staying in Albany, I'll put my thinking cap on!
The guests are staying in Albany, its Union College's reunion weekend so all the hotels wont block rooms and the prices are jacked up. So, they are staying in Albany at hotel Indgio and we have saved some other rooms at two other places on wolf road. We have to have a shuttle which is fine but Grrr to Union!!! (Haha its ok my brother went there!)
Anyway, I like the coupon idea for Jumpin Jacks, there is some time before the reception so that would be fun. Anyway, thank you and I appreciate any other ideas you think of!!
I would definitely add a map of the restaurants and shopping around Wolf Road (Christmas Tree Shop is my fave), and also downtown - especially The Egg, New York State Museum, and the Empire State Plaza.
You can add an apple or 2 to the bags, even with the individual servings of Caramel dip (to represent The Big Apple)!
If you are into Italian pastries, there is a MAGNIFICENT bakery in Schenectady - Villa Italia (http://www.villaitaliabakery.com/) - you could add a couple individually packaged pastries in the bags!
And if you want to venture a bit further up the Northway, you could include Saratoga Sparkling or non-sparking spring water (it comes in a beautiful cobalt blue glass bottle).
That's it for now, but I'll keep the wheels spinning!
Make sure to have water and snacks in your OOT bag. We're also including local magazines and hitting up the convention and visitors bureau for information on local events and local maps.
Water is crucial crucial crucial! Also, you could maybe throw in those individual packs of advil and tums or something. In case they just have a little too much fun at your wedding. :p
i like 50's suggestion of water, and to tie it to local... do saratoga spring water! another suggestion would be to do little coupons for an ice cream at friendly's or stewarts...
We just got married in Saratoga Springs, NY, and did OOT baskets as well. We included the Saratoga water, but I would advise that you use the plastic bottles. We originally were going to use the pretty blue glass ones, but they were so heavy, and we were fearful they would cause more problems than it was worth. Plus, the plastic bottles are much less expensive, of course :)
We also included potato chips because they were invented in Saratoga, and we included a little note with the history.
Then, of course, we had the obligatory maps of the area, and a personalized note to each guest.
Thank you everyone for the good ideas! I really appreciate your help! I am in my family practice residency so planning a wedding and working 80 hours a week and not being in Albany sucks so any advise is very much appreciated!!!

Hello all,
I am getting married at Siena College May 29, 2010 with the reception at Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia. I was wondering if you guys out there could help me with ideas for OOT bags. My FH is from Philly, so I was thinking about putting tastykakes in there. I am from Utica, so maybe Saranac soda? I dont know. I cant think of anything Albany specific, but any ideas you guys have I would love to hear them.
Thanks!
