I love the idea of OOT bags, but I'm not sure who to do them for. Our wedding is in NYC, but a lot of our family and family friends are coming from CT and LI... about an hour or maybe a little more. We are anticipating a lot of them staying at a hotel the night of our wedding so that they don't have to drive home and can continue to party later. However, they are not technically OOT.. didn't have to drive several hours or pay for a plane ticket. Also, hotel check-in starts at around the same time that we are arranging for the bus to pick everyone up for the church. After the church, guests will again go on a bus straight to the reception, so there won't be any time in between. So if guests only stay for the night of the wedding, it seems a little pointless to have snacks and goodies that will go to waste after a big dinner. I am tempted to leave a gift bag only to those who are truly coming from out of town (we have friends coming from Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, etc) for the whole weekend.

Thoughts??? Is this rude? My mom is of the opinion that everyone staying in the hotel deserves one, but I also feel like it should be something special for the people who are traveling from really far away (who are also mostly our friends from college who don't have tons of money).

    I appreciate any input!

We had all of the guests staying in the hotels get OOT bags. We had something enclosed with the invites that asked guests to state arrival date and hotel/resort which helped us arrange the number of drop offs/hotel.

I think you should just give them to the guest truly coming from OOT for the weekend. I agree that its pointless to give the other guest snacks before a big dinner.

I love the OOT bags too and the way that I decided who gets them, is if they came from over 500kms away. This is because I live on Vancouver Island so most of my guests are coming for here but I have a few families coming from Alberta and England.
