I think that's a great idea -- you might just want to beware of guests who are non-drinkers and/or could possibly take offense to this (such as a recovering alcoholic of the bunch or someone who doesn't drink for religious reasons). You could always give these guests sparkling cider in lieu of wine, or maybe something different entirely, but just consider if this would make them feel uncomfortable to be called out like this. Other than that, though, I would personally love to get a bottle of wine as a welcome gift! :-)
My FI and LOVE our local wineries. But most of our guests are flying in and may not have the time to drink the wine before heading home. It may present a challenge for them to take the bottle home (in case they only brought carry-on luggage and didn't want to check for the return).
For our OOT bags we'll probably put in the standard stuff: bottled water, nuts, homemade cookies, another set of directions, etc. Some of the WB's have put together really creative OOT bags.
How many OOT guests do you have coming in? If you've only got a handful and they're all people you know would appreciate the wine, I say go for it.
All of our guests are flying out to our wedding and our OOT bags will have a little tube of sunscreen, a little tube of aloe, some macadamia nuts from a local company, a bottle of water, a map to the wedding location, a list of optional events, local restaurant reviews and a list of contact phone numbers.
Here's a thought, should I do a big double bag for married guests, and a smaller bag for couples, or do you think everyone will want their own bags?
I think it's a good idea!
We did little baskets with local stuff, including local wine, local chocolates, local bbq sauce, etc. They went over well!
Meduzagirl, I think one bag is fine for a couple who are staying in a room together, and it only needs one thank you note, one set of maps/directions/local activites etc, but you might want to include two bottles of water and an extra snack.
You could fill one of these cute Texas shaped boxes with trail mix or spicy nuts. The boxes are less than $1 each and you can find the snack mix at Costco really cheap in bulk.
Add a personalized bottle of water (less than $.50 each
Some candy from Susie's South Forty: Pralines $8 Texas Trash $4 or Winner's Caramels $5
Put into a cute Gift Bag (Brown Kraft Paper, Navy Blue or Red, or these Gingham Ones from Oriental Trading Co
And you have a great Texas Themed OOT for as little as $7 a piece.
(PS- I keep trying to edit the width of the photo in the html field and it keeps changing itself back when I submit it. Sorry!)
Oh, that's so cute, samsmartypants! I wish I could find something like that for Alabama. We always get left out of the fun.

I was thinking about just getting a bottle of wine from a local winery for our guests upon arrival, attaching a welcome note to it...thoughts?? What are you welcoming your out of town guests with?
