I found my mom’s birthday present on eBay last week and it just came in the mail on Friday.
It is a 14kt gold opal ring. I had been debating between buying her rubies (her birth stone) and white sapphires (the rings were either just too much bling for my mom or too simple) and in the end I went with opal because the style of this ring was just so my mom!
Anyway, when I saw the ring in person I was floored! It’s so beautiful! The opals are white and turquoise and I love how they change colors in different lights. I know she’s going to love it, especially since her favorite type of jewelry to wear is turquoise!
So now that I’ve recognized a newfound love for opals I want to see more! Post your opal if you have one!
Here’s my mom’s new opal ring!

opals are so beautiful. I love black opals. One cool thing about opals is that fossils and petrified wood can be made of opal. The Field museum has a plesiosaur vertebrae made entire of opal, and it’s so cool!

I love it! An opal ring that belonged to my grandmother will be my “something old”. What a cool eBay find!

OP–that is gorgeous!
@DevolSyawla: It’s Fi’s birthstone too–it makes her angry when cheap jewelers use Pink Zircon instead of actual opal. I’d love to see more opal too, because I need birthday ideas!

My parents gave me an opal ring for my 18th birthday, its really beautiful but I can’t get my rubbish camera phone to do it any justice. Excuse my hands, i’ve been cleaning all morning so they look a bit sad.

Gorgeous photos, ladies! I ADORE opals…. I have been hunting online for an opal and diamond anniversary band…. I’d like something skinny and stackable, but no such luck yet. Opals and diamonds are just a gorgeous combination.

This isn’t my ring, but I loooove it and would like to recreate it some day. (Opals in the halo.)

@star_dust: Beautiful present !! No doubt your Mom will be pleased.
I too am a fan of opals and have a ring myself, Australian Opal surrounded by Diamonds. Just be aware that they require some special TLC because they are a fairly FRAGILE stone. You can GOOGLE more about them on line and how to care for them. (I did have a mishap… and lost the original centre stone in my ring… fortunately, I had purchased a Ring Warranty… so the Jeweller replaced the centre stone)

Opals are my birthstone and I wore an opal ring from my parents from 8th grade until I got married (I don’t think I have a picture of it right now, though, boo….)
