I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t directing weddings in my small town. My hometown was a small little town in NC, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, There was nature and beauty and food…and LOTS of wedding. My mother could cook anything and everything, and never refused an opportunity to volunteer for…well, just about everything.
Then there were the southern weddings…aahh the weddings. Now, I’ve attended weddings in other states, but never has there been anything more beautiful than a big ole pink, fluffy southern wedding! You learn quickly when you’re a southern girl, and I loved it!
Like my mom, I volunteered for everything. So when I directed my best friend’s wedding because I was available, and free, my wedding career launched!
My southern mama and her best girlfriends cooked, while I attended to the planning and all the details. I also bartended, party-planned, designed gowns..you name it! I made a natural progression into catering and event planner at major hotels and food/beverage in Charlotte, North Carolina.
I wanted more! I wanted to live among people who are open-minded, progressive, liberal and who weren’t in the oppressive south, so I left NC and moved to South Florida. Wow!
I quickly saw a need for LGBT-friendly services…I worked in a hotel that was very LGBT-friendly, but found it difficult to find other LGBT-specific services. One of my best friends wanted a Commitment Ceremony. They weren’t able to be legally married, but wanted to share their 10-year beautiful relationship with friends, family, and the world. I was quick to volunteer, of course!
I began officiating at other LGBT couples’ commitment ceremonies. I decided to become ordained, and made myself available to other non-traditional couples.
I live in Saint Augustine, Florida and LOVE the weddings and ceremonies here! They are creative, beautiful, meaningful, both traditional and non-traditional, whimsical, romantic…the list goes on & on! I travel throughout Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach, Daytona, Saint Augustine and the entire state of Florida.
Big pink fluffy southern weddings are great memories, but non-traditional, fun-loving, open-minded people are far more interesting. I’m ready to get started creating YOUR memories!
