I usually consume the same amount unless there are “wandering refillers” in which case I probably end up drinking more since someone is always topping up my glass.

As long as I had the money on me, I’d probably drink the same amount. I never want to be obviously drunk at a social function. If I knew it was a flat open bar instead of a hosted consumption bar, I’d probably order nicer versions of the liquors than normal since I’d know I wasn’t costing the couple more money because of my choice of liquor.

I would drink the same amount regardless of open or cash bar.

I’d drink about the same.

I think I drink about the same amount but maybe differently – as in different drinks. Open bar I might try something new because if I don’t like it, hey on to the next. But when it’s cash I’ll probably just go with my standards.

@kate02121:  Totally.  Might be inclined to try something “fancier” when it’s open bar. (I don’t mean more expensive, just like, a different drink than I normally would…)

I drink the same types and amounts either way.

I definitely drank more than I would have if it had been a cash bar at a recent wedding.  But, we were told to drink early and often since the bar was only hosted up to a certain amount (it ended up being open the whole night….so I drank a lot).

I think as long as the drinks at the cash bar are reasonably priced, I would usually drink about the same amount, but possibly a little less.  I do agree with PPs who say that they might order a bit differently if it’s a cash bar vs. open bar.

I think I would usually drink the same amount but when I was younger (and poorer) I would have drank more at an open bar!

I drink the same amount. Open bar to me doesn’t imply hey come get shit face, take expensive shots, drink to excess, and run up the bride and grooms bar tab!

Probably about the same or a little more. If I’m dishing out $7 a pop for cocktail, I’ll probably partake a bit more if I’m not paying for it.

I’d drink more at an open bar, but not significantly more. Maybe an extra drink or two.

I think it depends for me.

I probably would drink more at an open bar (assuming I actually liked the wine/cocktails) because sometimes, the cash bar can add up rather quickly. That said, it’s not a whole lot more – maybe one drink or two more.

Same amount…but if it were at a wedding, I’d probably not have much cash with me, so therefore I would drink less.  I would expect an open bar.
