After drooling over Burgues Script for months, I've decided to break down and buy it. Before I drop the dough though, I wanted to make sure I'd actually be able to use it. I don't have Adobe Illustrator or anything like that on my MacBook, just good 'ole Word and PowerPoint. Will I have a problem using the OpenType with such basic programs?

    i think it'll be ok.

    http://www.adobe.com/type/opentype/

the first sentence of that makes me think it'll be ok.  if microsoft developed it, stands to reason it'll work in microsoft products.  and it specifically says it was developed to work on windows and mac machines, so i'm thinking it should work.

i'm not speaking from experience here, though.

(i know you love this one you've found, but have you checked out http://kevinandamanda.com/fonts/ ? seriously awesome fonts, free, and work on my macbook)

    ooh, look:

if opentype is related to truetype it will work.  just open the file you download on your macbook and click the "install font" button on the bottom right.  then it'll be an option in all your programs (word, powerpoint, whatever)

You can use the font but won't be able to access the beautiful glyphs (extra swishes and alternate letters).  You need Adobe software to get to those.

You can use Inkscape for the glyphs - it's free.  I just used it for my invites.  If you have trouble with the glyphs in Inkscape, PM me and I'll be happy to help.  The first time I did it, it took me a few hours to get 5 words with the glyphs and then the next day I found a shortcut that would have cut it down to 15 minutes.
