We have a large window in our living room that starts a bit higher than my waist. We are thinking of putting a bookshelf underneath it because it would fit perfectly and I think it would look nice.
The issue is the curtains. We wouldn’t be able to close them if the bookshelf was against the wall. If I got short curtains that didn’t go to the floor, would that look weird? I don’t know if I have ever seen it before so I am wondering if it would look funny.

MrsCallalily: I’m not a fan of short curtains. I would make sure the rod was wide enough and have curtain panels to the floor on either side that aren’t meant to close. Make sure the curtain panels are wide enough to cover the edge of the blind and the window. Pick panels that are 2.5 to 3 times the width you need so you have luxurious fullness. When you donlt have to buy drapes to cover the whole window, you can usually afford to splurge bit on the side panels.
To provide privacy and light control, I would hang a blind underneath.
This pic is two windows but same principle applies.

I just had this feeling the short curtains wouldn’t look good. I never thought of having the curtains on the sides more for decoration than function. I think that looks pretty good.
Thank you so much!
