you might want to ask your photographer what looks best.  our photographer told us to wear solid colors. i got my photos this week and so, glad we took her advice.  it turned out nicely.  as for matching, i’m not sure.  but coordinating is good.

I never understood the whole “don’t wear prints, only wear solids” thing.  We had two outfits, and mixed it up a little… I think our shots turned out amazing!  My advice is to go with comfortable style.  Don’t stray too far from your usual style.  🙂

I’m a fan of coordination, not matching. ddubzz second pictures is a great example of a cohesive look without actually “matching.”

Our photog told us to wear colors that complimented each other and that we shouldn’t mix patterns (this was mostly so that after a year or two the pictures wouldn’t look too dated).  I ended up wearing dark jeans a light green tanktop and cream cardigan and FI wore dark jeans and a light green and cream collered shirt.  We had our pictures done at a national park and beach.  The pictures came out great:

We decided to go fairly formal, since we both love to dress up but seldom have the opportunity.  We kept the actual choices pretty simple though.

I wouldn’t be matchy matchy, just coordinating.  Personally I’d prefer color over black and white.

Wear clothes that reflect your everyday styles, not what some random person online says you “must” wear. Of the various photographer blogs who document engagement pictures, I have yet to come across any couple who wore black and white only or matching outfits.

If you don’t wear dresses in your everyday life, don’t wear one for your engagement pictures because “everyone else” does so.

@ddubzz: I knew your dress looked familiar! My photographers recently posted an e-shoot where the girl was wearing the same thing!

I didn’t even think about this and we wore two different prints but I think it turned out fine.

I think you should wear clothes that are comfortable, and clothes that doesn’t stray too far from your everyday style :).

I had a really hard time trying to figure out what to wear for our pictures. We ended up dressing casually because that represents our everyday style. My husband wore a gray sweater, and I wore a dark pink v-neck. The minute my photographer saw me, she got really excited, and told me the bright color would be fun to photograph. Our photos turned out really well, and the pink was a fun pop of color, so I would recommend going with some color vs. just black and white.

We didn’t try to coordinate, just wore what we liked, felt comforatble in, and expressed our styles.
