So I was recently married in June, and we were going to TTC on the honeymoon, well that was put on hold because I had to have surgery. So This is the First month we are offically TTC. I went to my OBGYN today for a post op and while there I was telling her that I was about to ovulate. And that we were actively trying, she said that can’t be possible. Back up………, My First day of my period was sept 3rd, it stopped the 6th. The 7th I started doing the ovulation tests. Clear blue easy Smiley face test. On the 7th I got a A circle which means nada. The night of the 7th I got cold and clammy, nausous and felt like I was about to faint. Thats the sign I’m about to ovulate, I’m highly senstive. I started cramping that night, Another sign I’m about to start ovulating. So the morning of the 8th I took another OT and had a smiley face. The 9th a smiley face. So Back to the doctors appointment….. After I told her all of this she said that the Ovulation test weren’t working for me and that they were wrong. She said i could have gotten a batch of bad tests. I told her exactly what My body was doing and how I even had cervical mucas yesterday and that despite the ovulate tests I beleive my body was telling me I was about to Ovulate. Then She checked me out to make sure I was healed from surgery and she said well it looks like you might be about to ovulate. But she still didn’t think that was right ???? She said I should ovulate 10-14 days from the first day of my period. Then she said I don’t know what’s going on with your body. Just have sex. Have sex every other day for 2 weeks. Then see what happens. I asked if I was ovulating early and if i indeeed got pregnant , would that effect the pregnency and she said no.
i went into this appointment with a clear head and excited that I was about to ovulate and we were actively trying. I left confused and unclear if my body is doing something wrong or not. Any opinions are welcomed.
Basically what I’m wondering is if Anyone has taken an Ovulation test and got a smiley so soon after your period? Is that normal? Does anyone else have the sensitivity to ovulation like I do? Do you think this was sound advice , or should I seek another doctor?
I sure hope this makes sense. I’m not down with the lingo yet of the TTC Board 🙂

I honestly haven’t heard of ovulating that soon after your period. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just was under the impression it was a lot later in the cycle… but like your doc said keep having sex! I wouldn’t seek another doc just yet, she might just think it’s too soon and not want you to get your hopes up.
Good luck to you. Join us on the September POAS board if you haven’t already. Lots of helpful and supportive women there.
Oh and here’s a link to the abbreviations used: http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Abbreviations I found them helpful in the beginning. 🙂

Hmm. Do you also chart your temps? That could help you verify whether or not the ovulation tests are working for you.
I wonder if maybe you didn’t really have a period on the 3rd through the 6th – maybe you didn’t ovulate at all last month, and that was just breakthrough bleeding. If so, maybe that would make the timing of ovulating on the 7th more feasible. (If that truly was the case, don’t worry! It’s not uncommon for women to have the occasional anovulatory cycle.)
My two cents on this either way is that your doc didn’t sound like she had great bedside manner. I might shop around for another one, unless you still feel comfortable with her.

It does seem highly unlikely (but not completely impossible) that you would ovulate on day 8 of your cycle… But then this is why sex ed taught girls that you can get pregnant while having a period, because there are rare cases where it can happen.
It is also possible that you have faulty opks, OR that you had a hormone surge that showed up, but that you haven’t actually ovulated yet (they only predict that ovulation will occur soon, but don’t guarantee it)
Either way, continuing to have sex every couple of days for the next couple of weeks will certainly not be harmful to a potential pregnancy, so her advice can’t hurt.

@Cantstartafire1: I didn’t take an ovulation test when I got pregnant, but I have a short cycle and got pregnant with 4 days of the last day of my period. I guess it would have been 8 days after the first day of my period. I would follow your opk and grain of salt to what the dr said. Good luck!

I came to the conclusion I’m just going to go with the Dr’s Advice and have sex every other day for 2 weeks and go from there. If my cycle is messed up from my surgery then hopefully it will be on track by my next cycle. Or I could possibly be about to ovulate and maybe it will work. I just have to remember to be calm and stay relaxed. TTC is a process and not something that can be rushed and in all due time I will have a baby. I really do have to repeat that to myself though. I’m about to be 32 on the 25th and My body is yelling at me to procreate! LOL 🙂
