Hi everyone! I am eloping on 1/1/11.  NOBODY knows about it, so I plan on editing my photos out of this thread after I get everyone's opinion :) . So if anyone is thinking about saving my pix and reposting it online for reference to the dress, i beg of you please don't! LOL

Anyway, since no one new about it I had to rely on only my opinion on dresses that I saw online.  I had no friends and no family's input on this.  So I'm hoping my fellow bees will help me out.  Normally my dream dress would be Monique Lhuillier Scarlet, but since I don't get any family help nor time to save up, I started looking elsewhere.  Well I found a dress and it was already altered to my size.  It is the complete opposite to the lace dress I wanted.  It is taffeta.  I love the look, but I'm not sure.  Should I just go find a lace dress?  I was thinking Maggie's Catarina just in case you bees don't think the dress I have on in these photos don't look right for me.  Please keep in mind I am 5'2.  Gazebo overlooking the ocean elopement...Fiance will be wearing his army dress blues (example of dress blues pictured on the left below)....So ladies tell me what you, do I look good, or just a big mess???? (I actually did my own corset to take these pix!!! haha)

For those that vote "No", can you please tell me why you think I should get another dress? And also what is your personal taste, your wedding dress?  Any dress suggestions? I wanna consider everyone's opinions please.  So you can get as nice or as mean as you like!  My mom's bluntness is what I'm missing from this equation because of the secret elopement :(

I don't love the shoulder thing - it looks really beautiful on you without it.

Wow you ladies are FAST! LOL.  Thanks so much for the compliments.  Now I guess it's more of a debate of flower stole or no stole, unless later in the day I get more "No" to the dress. Even though it's only an elopement, every detail is soooo critical!  So stressful!

@totheislnds: This is actually Maggie Sottero's Allison Marie dress with matching Stole.  I don't believe you can order it separately.  But Good News! I saw one on ebay going for $50 right now.  http://cgi.ebay.com/MAGGIE-SOTTERO-BRIDAL-DRESS-WRAP-SHRUG-JACKET-BOLERO-/300492933956?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f6c64b44

Love it! I like it both with and without the shrug. But if you wear the shrug, I think it looks better in pictures when it is pulled down lower (away from your neck).

Love the dress, not so much the shrug/stole thing. The dress makes your boobs look great tho! (hope that's not getting too personal :) )

@PepBandLove: Thanks! That's great to hear from someone that's totally against them.  Still making decision harder with or without.....

Ladies what do you think?  If I do the stole, can I pull off a veil as well?  Or am I going to have to choose between a veil or the stole?

The photos where the stole didn't come above your shoulders, it looked perfect.  It works without, too.  But it's a safe bet either way :)

First of all, I think this is a great dress! I had a friend of mine wear this a few years ago--in gold. It was just lovely.

Not a fan of the shawl, personally, but that dress looks great

I am not a fan of stoles but that one looks great on you! It looks like your personality..but I don't know you lol. It just seems to make you beam more! It seems to also bring out that pretty smile too:). I think a veil and the stole would look fab! Though I wouldn't buy a veil with too much goin on though. I think a more simple cathedral veil would look great! You look divine my dear! Just fab!

@kalliela:  I don't know if I should do cathedral.  This is after all an elopement and I don't want everything to be too big.  Do you think a fingertip length would look good?  Do you think an elbow length possibly work with the stole?

An elopement is still a wedding and I think a simple cathedral veil would look fantastic with your dress, IF you'd like to wear one that length. Otherwise, I'd go for an elbow length veil.

Personally, I'm not loving the stole. But you look absolutely beautiful in your dress!! Congrats!

@tarheelgrad98: Thanks! I hope I do :)  I am worried that my fiance might think i look like a total mess.  That's why i started this poll :)  Anyway, so you are saying go "strapless"?  Do you think silver/crystal accessories will look good (headband, necklace, earrings?  I would love to do pearls like in my photos, but it's an old superstition in my culture that pearls represent the tears that I would be shedding in my marriage.  Of course I'm not superstitious, but the thought of is scary!

I really wish the people who voted No would weigh in their thoughts.

@PinkBubbleGum:  i agree about pulling the stole down a little lower. it makes the dress look like its an off the shoulder design and makes it look very elegant and romantic.  Love the dress too but i would definitely get the stole with it, it just adds something extra special IMO.

@cookiepeeps: i agree.  the stole makes it look so unique.  while the dress alone looks like a bunch of other dresses.  i'm just sooooo split though.  the stole is really borderline - it could work or it could not work. looking a the poll, people are really split within the two...and i just wonder if my fiance might be on the side of the half with no stole or with stole.  he likes how in my regular wardrobe i have items that are so different and unique.  but once in a while he'll call me out on something and tell me straight up if he thinks it's tacky.....i don't want him to think i'm tacky instead of tasteful. ugh, i wish i can just show him a pic of the stock photos and ask him, but i think that's bad luck? hahahaha

it's a beautiful dress. i hope you don't think i'm being mean, but i think it looks a little too small on you, and your boobs are falling out. can you get the dress taken out some? it looks gorgeous on you, but it just looks like it doesn't fit.

I love the dress, but not so much with the stole. To me it looks like puffy 80s sleeves... sorry :( Maybe in person I'd feel differently and regardless... if you love it go for it! Regardless though, the dress is amazing!

@kitzy: no not mean at all. i need an honest answer.  i am currently on a weight loss plan, planning to lose the 10 pounds left i had gained from my pregnancy.  i do have a backup....technically i have already purchased this dress and it will be coming in mid dec, but it gives me two weeks of alterations.

the one i have in the photos was a used dress (exact same one) that i found for $180! the girl was my exact height and almost the same size.  and i figure if i can make this work, then i can just resell the one coming in december and not have to worry about alterations making it in time.  the only alterations i hope to do is my 10 pounds! hehe

does anyone else honestly think this dress looks awkward on me now?

oh, and i also did my own corset when i wanted to take the pix...so i don't know if someone else tying my corset can make it looser, you think it would work better? i just tied the sucker as hard as i could

I think you look great! and i really like it with the stole...everyone seems to have a strapless sweetheart (I do so im not hatin) but I think that the stole makes it very unique and original and it draws attention to your beautiful neckline and shoulders.

@CorgiTales: yeah i see what you are saying about the 80s thing.  that's why i was thinking i should lift the stole higher, but even people are saying to keep it down.  that's one thing i don't want is to look like i'm wearing an 80s dress...no offense to anyone out there that might like that look still

So what do you think?  Would going strapless work better with fiance's army dress blues?  Or do you think the stole would look great?  I don't want us to look out of place together if the stole does that.  What do you ladies think?
