I’d have it say whichever one will pop up when they Google Map it, for convenience’s sake. You don’t want 300 emails of, “You put the wrong address. It’s actually in Monterey.” the week before your wedding.

Yes I would also do the REAL address.  That way if I go to google it, I will have the real address and not be completely confused.

Join us at [venue name]…?  Or Join us in California?  I think that would be good if you have a lot of OOT guests.

@waitingwonderland:  ahhhh, ok.  I think it would be okay if you went ahead and did this.

If I saw you had put Carmel on the STDs and then the formal invite came with Monterey, it wouldn’t bother me.  I would just google the address that you listed on your invite.  But I also wouldn’t be thinking about the specific weather that time of year at that location 10 months in advance, I would only worry about it once I received the invitation.

I think the STDs are only nice so that I will know if I have to take off of work or book plane tickets (and since these are so close the exact location doesn’t make a difference to me until a few months before the wedding)

It looks like it is closest to Carmel Valley so I would use that.

When I got your invitation and saw Monterey, if I had even noticed that you wrote Carmel before, I would have assumed that you changed the venue.  I don’t think people really think about the “vibe” or the wedding until they get the invite anyway, which is really what sets the vive of the wedding (the style of the invite and the venue).  So, I actually don’t think it matters what you put.  But, I would stick with the city that it’s in and clarify on your wedding website, as you have.

Advice #1 – If you want to put “Join us in Carmel” on your Save the Dates and that makes you happy – Do it. You’re the bride.

Advice #2 – So it’s a destination wedding, but the guests are somewhat familiar enough with the area to have impressions about the differences in these town names?

I’ve never been to CA in my life. When I google Carmel, Califonia it shows me Carmel by the sea. So if I were your guest, I’d still not understand where you are getting married.

I really do think the best thing to put on the save the dates is “Venue Name, California.” It sounds like all the logical town names are going to give them the wrong impression. If you just list the venue, then they can figure out where it will actually be.

Do people at least call that area Carmel?
I feel like you still might have to deal with questions. But all brides do.

Just beacuse it’s traditional so have “Save the date for Bride & Groom’s Wedding. 8-3-13 City, State” Doesn’t mean you have to do it.
