I think your ring is beautiful!  FWIW, my cathedral setting also has fairly thick prongs.  I think they do it because that’s what’s necessary to keep the diamond safe when there are only four prongs.  Here’s a side pic of mine:

I’m not a fan of those type of prongs but I don’t think it makes your diamond look bad, or less sparkly, or smaller.

AvasMama515: Absolutely beautiful, beautiful ring!! The prongs are thick, but I really like them. I feel like they emphasize the shape of your stone and sets it apart from the stones in your band. Especially from the top view, but the side views are super pretty, too.

AvasMama515:  Oh your ring is so pretty!  But I totally understand what you mean about the prongs – I’m super prong-sensitive too.  Your prongs do look significant – it is so beautiful, but if you’re like me, you’d be bugged.

I do know that in a lot of cathedral designs I’ve seen, the prongs are relatively thick.  However, I have a cathedral setting that was custom made, and my prongs are itty bitty!  And I’ve never once had any issue with slippage or stone security – I’ve had my ring for a year.  I have a cushion cut – here’s what my prongs look like facing up and from the side (which is completely open – that’s what my FI wanted).  I think they should be able to reduce the thickness of those prongs – I wonder if they went a little overboard with your prongs since the first time around they were crooked… hmmm.

AvasMama515:  Thank you!!  OH that sucks that they said that to you!  Could they not have just re-made the whole ring with the pave and the head all together?  Sounds like that’s what they should have done in the first place.  I’m so sorry you have to deal with that!  And I like the head they put on the first time – but those doggone prongs shouldn’t be bending on you.  Any chance you could take it to another shop to get a second opinion?  It is truly a beautiful stone – AND definitely a beautiful ring, but you still deserve better service, in my opinion.

I “lol”ed a bit about your “I love your prongs” comment. Only on the Bee ladies, only on the Bee 🙂

Truthfully, no one is going to look at the side view of your ring. Everyone who looks at mine, grabs my hand and looks at the top view only. Your prongs aren’t exactly delicate, but they are very stylish and the top view is divine!

Don’t stress it and be thankful that your center stone is secure!

AvasMama515:  thank you.  I had the same issue so I also completely replaced the head while i asked for pave prongs and they gave me chanel set, i still like it.  I def think you should push until you get what you want, its a big purchase, better to be happy

I agree..I think they are a little too big for your diamond im sure it could be fixed easily.I don’t think it makes your diamond look smaller though I actually think they make it appear larger..I have a princess cut diamond with a halo..it has double prongs one on each side of the corners.

Your original setting was better.

AvasMama515: I prefer smaller, more delicate prongs but I’m also 3 standard deviations below average height for a woman.

Did you know they’d change the prong style?
