    @GatsbyMama:  Personally, I like oval stones. You may want to edit your original post as it can be offensive to consider other people’s stones outdated. Myself included as I have a marquise and it is in no way, shape or form outdated. In fact, some of the most elegant rings I’ve seen have been pear halos set in rose gold.

    I have an oval green sapphire and I love it. Why would you get a popular engagement ring instead of one you love? Eventually all of our engagement rings will not belong to the current trend.

    I voted cushion because not all ovals are cut well (you can get the “bowtie” effect which I’m not a huge fan of), not that ALL cushions are cut well, it’s just easier to find a well-cut cushion than a well-cut oval, and cushions are so timeless! Ovals IMO look better with colored stones (oval sapphires, rubies, etc).

    I love oval cut stones! I think it’s timeless and elegant and a little more unique than a round stone.

    @GatsbyMama:  That makes sense, quotes probably would have helped. I think everything is eventually “outdated” and then it swings back around (look that the comeback the halo has made). I honestly think it’s all in how you set your stone, the obvious would be just to have the classic solitare.

    I ADORE ovals, and I really wanted an oval ring, but ultimately I got a cushion cut, so obviously I like both. lol. Have you tried rings on with oval and cushion stones? Actually seeing it on may help you determine what you like best.

    Don’t worry about it looking outdated. If YOU love the ring then that’s all that matters.

    @chouette:  She didn’t say anything offensive.  If someone is offended at another bee’s opinion of a stone being outdated then that is their problem.  Something being trendy or dated is a matter of opinion, subjective and she’s asking for an opinion.

    People are overly sensitive and there’s no reason why the OP should have to tiptoe through the tulips.  She had a perfectly polite and reasonable post.

    Someone wants to call my ring outdated, trendy, out of fashion – go nuts.  I’m not about to tell them to “be careful because I find that offensive!”  That’s MY issue, then, not theirs.

    @skippydarling: She admitted that she misworded it and edited her post so it’s been resolved. I’m pretty sure it’d be offensive if someone came on here and said “All girls over a size 6 are fat” even if it’s just an opinion.

    There was a whole to-do not 3 days ago over whether or not stating “it’s just my opinion” gives you a liscense to insult other people for the choices they’ve made, the general consensus was no, it does not.

    @GatsbyMama:  Get what YOU love and want. Have you tried on different cuts and seen them on your hand?  I have a cushion cut diamond halo with a diamond band because that is what I love.  Don’t get a cushion just because it’s popular.

    @FLBlonde93:  Completely agree!!! 🙂

    I love all cuts of stones!!! I think OP should go with what she loves. You don’t want ring regret! Did the oval just jump out as being ‘right’? Ovals are gorgeous btw and can look lovely on long fingers! I have seen some lovely ones here and have been green with envy!

    I like the oval! I think it’s so classic. It’s ok to choose the one you love even if your husband prefers the other. If he were choosing between 2 rings, you would want him to have the one he liked better, right?
