So I went dress shopping today, and it was not as fun as I thought it would be. Maybe it was the pressure of buying right away (salon says that it takes 6 months to come in and 3 months to alter, and my wedding is about 9 months away), or maybe it’s due to other reasons (like the bit of weight that I put on when I quit going to the gym… I get sooo self-conscious when I’m 1/2 naked in a dressing room with a stranger!), but I left feeling a little discouraged and frustrated even though I found two lovely gowns.
I settled on two Maggie Sottero dresses from this shop, but I am not sure which one I like better. My search is far from over– I really wanted to try on Mori Lee 1802 (I fell in love with it ever since I saw it on @WeddingBound!) but the salon didn’t carry it, so I still have more stores to visit.
I also want to try David’s Bridal or Alfred Angelo because their turnaround time is a bit quicker, so hopefully I won’t feel rushed or pressured into anything right away.
Please let me know which dress of the two you find the more flattering! Also, if anyone has input on chain bridal stores vs. independently owned boutiques, I’d love to hear input on that as well. Thanks 🙂

I find the dress on the left more flattering to you, but after reading what you wrote I’d suggest doing more dress shopping, and perhaps trying different silhouettes – or perhaps you have already? Please don’t feel pressured, you have time! You’ll be fine. I was treated much better at independent boutiques. I really don’t think they should make you feel pressure AT ALL – that does NOT help anyone facing a major decision.
I don’t know where you put on weight – I don’t see any extra!!!

my vote is keep searching. i don’t feel like either is really more flattering than the other andi think you can find something better

@li612: WOW did you really just say that? Man some Bee’s are not nice. Sometimes you don’t need to say your opinion, next time keep it to yourself. what if she loves both dresses , and you just made her second guess her self. Try to be uplifting not negative it is not becoming, and I know your attitude can do better right?

@SnowBunny420: it was not meant to sound mean; she doesn’t sound thrilled about either of them and she deserves to have a dress she loves, not one that she is settling on.

@li612: I think she looks great in dress one. She must like the style because they are almost exact. So she MUST like the dress, just needed help on which one. Just because you don’t like it or not thrilled does not mean she is. I don’t know sometimes Bee’s sound so mean, and maybe you don’t mean to come across like that, but it sure does come across like that.

@SnowBunny420: she already said she was planning on looking other places. she posted asking for opinions. i gave my opinion. sorry my opinion differed from yours and you didn’t like it.

@SnowBunny420: I don’t think li612’s comment was mean at all. I also think OP can find a dress she loves elsewhere and one that suits her perfectly 🙂

You have to try on the dress you fell in love with or you’re never be satisfied.

I really like the one on the left. The one on the right just has strange proportions IMO.

I like the way one fits on your curves,

Dress 1 does fit your body better, however I would keep looking because you said you “settled” for these two dresses and you should NEVER settle for your weddiNg dress. I know the perfect one is out there for you!

I also think could find something better. I like the top half of dress 1 but I’m not a huge fan if the bottom. I prefer the bottom on dress 2. I think a combination of the two would be perfect:)))

@Astra: Thank you for your input! 🙂 I will try some more independent bridal salons, and hopefully the next one I go to will not pressure me as much… it was a major fun-suck!
@Dixiesgirl: I did say “settle” in my post, which is a red flag, right?? You’re right, I suppose the search will continue.
@Anna10-05-2014: That’s true, I will keep comparing every dress I try on to that dress of my dreams… Hopefully I can track down that Mori Lee to get it out of my system!
@SnowBunny420: Thank you for your kind words 🙂 You hit the nail on the head, I do like that style very much. For some reason I don’t think the pictures do the dresses justice. I liked them both SO much more when I was wearing them, but looking at the pictures, I think they’re both just MEH… I don’t know if it’s the fit or what.
@li612: Thanks for your suggestion. I was not offended by your opinion. I was hoping that one of those would be *the dress*, but I don’t love how I look in either of the pictures. So I agree, I guess I need to look at some more options. I want *THE* dress to be stunning in pictures as well as in real life.

@NeverMoreLenore: So you have answered your question, keep looking it is. Good luck, you will look beautiful in anything you choose to wear.
