I like the flowers they show–And Roses and Baby’s Breath should be dirt cheap in March. Especially if you DIY it! (6 Rose stems and two BB per vase would be like $5 a vase if you get your roses at the grocery store)

I think hydrangeas or roses would look good.

Is there a Trader Joe’s by you?  We buy fresh flowers there regularly, and not only are they reasonable, they last too.  So while you wouldn’t have much control over the color (depending on what they have in stock), you’d have an option for reasonably priced fresh flowers.

Also, do you really have your heart set on having flowers?  Maybe you can just have the lantern surrounded by smaller tea lights and/or flower petals?

@CarterLove:  I’d go with a few stems of real flowers….which really would be pretty close to the  price of silk. Check out costco, sams club where you can order flowers in bulk…..there have been several threads on here where bees have DIYed and saved tons of money while still being able to use real flowers.

There is always the options of real touch flowers….which are very realistic but can be kinda pricey. I used a combination of real and fake for our wedding. I got some really nice artificals at joanns and micheals.

I would vote for real flowers too, I think you would actually save money DIY that rather than buying fake. You can get baby’s breath, carnations etc. very cheap. Just check out the local flower section at Loblaws, they always have “buy three bouquets for $15”!

YAY for real flowers! There are also some great online providers that can ship them to you in bulk for great prices (see boards for reviews). I often buy bulk flowers to make bouquets for events and parties (and my house) from places like Sam’s and Costco – you may want to check them out too.

Post photos so we can see how amazing they turn out! 🙂
