@twofortheshow:  I’m not sure why it happens, but I know it’s fairly common. Hamikay got five this cycle too. Are you testing with FMU or afternoon or both?

@ChuckNorris:  Wow, now I’m keen to see if anyone knows the science behind this. I had no idea it was common.

@twofortheshow:  Can you give me 1 of your positive OPK days please!

@ticatica:  Well, OPK’s are just detecting LH levels higher than 20-40… Sometimes people’s LH surge lasts longer than just a few hours. That’s why I ask about FMU, because technically you’re supposed to test in the afternoon, becuase FMU could possibly pick up levels higher than that irregardless of a true surge – since LH is present throughout your whole cycle.

ETA:  I test with FMU and it worked out for me this cycle, so it’s not bad to test with FMU, but I’ve heard the thought is that LH can build up overnight to give some “false” positives around O since it’s higher around there regardless, you know?

@ChuckNorris:  Thank you. I’ve been testing with second urine, then again in the evening. I think it’s fantastic news for the OP if she has a window that long 🙂

@ChuckNorris:  Strange, my OPK Kit says to use afternoon/evening Urine because LH is created in the body in the after waking in the morning, so it wouldn’t be in your urine till the afternoon, so FMU would show False Negatives for the day – pretty much the opposite of your explination… iiiiiinteresting…

@ElopeGirl:  Pretty much the same thing as I’m saying, but it’s not that it gets produced in the afternoon, it’s that it usually wouldn’t be high enough until the afternoon, you know? But it’s never out of your system.

Here is a graphic =)

So, if you were to test with FMU on day 12, 13, and 14, it could potentially build up enough to be positive for several days in a row.

I dunno, I’m definitely not an OPK expert… But that’s how I understood it, but I could be totally wrong!

@twofortheshow:  It’s a deal 🙂

This just all goes to show that this is not an exact science…sigh 🙁 My OPK tests say not to test with FMU because urine is too concentrated with other things in the morning and to test between 10am and 8pm only. Even the packets are giving mixed messages.

@ticatica:  Yeah, that’s what I find too. Mixed messages everywhere!

@twofortheshow:  Chuck is right, I got 5 days of +OPKs this cycle (so I feel your pain!!) – althrough mine stopped after my temp rise. I got one last + on the day OF my temp rise with FMU, but figured that was just leftover LH from the day before (no idea if this is even possible – haha).

I’d check with a professional about this, because my understanding is that LH triggers O – so shouldn’t be around afterwards…. perhaps there is a hormone problem?? That’s what I’m getting tested for. Also, apparently those with PCOS can get unreliable or multiple +OPKs (although my doctor has ruled this out for me already with an ultrasound)

I’d definitely be reporting this at your next appointment. Beware Dr Google unless you’re brave, because he’ll diagnose you with all sorts of problems. I DID find many women saying that they got their BFP the month they had multiple +OPKs on different forums… AF is due for me tomorrow, so we’ll see how we go (not holding out much hope though).

All the best!!
