OPKs are Hard….

@Mars62312:  I work out a lot and haven’t had any issues whatsoever.

I typically test in the late afternoon (say 2-3 pm) and then at night before going to bed (11 pm). Again, I am a serious work out freak and eat/drink all day and still there is always an opportunity to test. Drinking a reasonable amount of water has never created an issue for me testing, I still get a postive OPK around that time.

I get positives no matter how much I drink, and I usually try to drink a few bottles of water a day. There may be some truth to the “diluted urine” thing, but it hasn’t been much of an issue for me.

@Mars62312:  I had the same dilemma! I’m very active and I love to drink a lot throughout the day- I hate being anything less than hydrated and I pee frequently, too. I cut back my water/liquid in the afternoon and I also called a “close to positive” a “positive,” which I know you’re not supposed to do, but I’d only held my pee for 2 hours. Anyway, it didn’t matter because I conceived that cycle (we’d been trying a few months before that but that month was the first time I used the OPK. When in doubt, have sex, it worked for me! Best of luck to you!

@Elayne51:  I appear to be the opposite of previous posters.  I drink a lot of water usually but if I do when using opks I don’t get a positive.  I’ve tried one month drinking water like normal and no positive , next month drank nothing from when I woke up to 2/3 pm and got a positive. Tried drinking water like normal again next month and no positive. So my system now is from cycle day 13 to 20 I drink a lot less, I start my water after I test at 2 and when I see it getting darker to almost positive then I drink very little water and test usually 2-3 times a day.  Usually it’s only 2 days of seriously cutting back on my water intake. It’s worth it for me though because I will not get a positive if I don’t.

I drink a crap ton of water too and don’t bother with that holding stuff. I would for a HPT, but not an OPK. What I’ve found is that positives are just both lighter if my sample is more diluted. Still positive though.

I drink a ton of water, so I don’t get + OPKs that are darker than the control line. My +’s are usually the same color.  So that and the fact that I’m temping, I know that I ovulate.  I say stick with drinking the water – its good for you.  Not drinking a drop for 4 hours is not.
