My fiance & I are having a small wedding this year w/ just our immediate families where we’ll be signing our marriage license then a big wedding next year. For next years ceremony, we are thinking of having a close friend who’s an awesome writer & speaker, conduct our ceremony & marry us. I spoke to a couple of past brides who did this & said that it went great and they loved it! We would choose someone who wouldn’t mind getting ordained, that’s close to us and that would be honored to do it…
Have any of you done this? How did it go?

I’m not planning on it, but I do know a few people that have done this. A girl I know had her best friend perform the ceremony (she was in seminary school at the time) and it was so sweet. It really helped create a very intimate and personalized ceremony because the officiant knew the bride and the groom so well. I think it’s a great idea!

We had my DH’s brother get ordained for our ceremony. He is a lawyer and a great public speaker so it was an easy choice since we were getting married outside and it was not a religious ceremony. He did a fabulous job and was so honored to be asked to be our officiant. He had to fill out some paperwork then go down to a courthouse to be deputized which took a few hours but it was not a bad process at all.
