I know this is 5months later and you've probably since figured it out, but in case anyone else needs to know:
Bridal sizes are NOT equal to street sizes. I tried on (and fell in love with) an Amsale dress, and I am a "street" size 10/12 (so 31-32" waist), meaning that's what I wear in regular clothes. The Amsale dress was a bridal size 18, and was just about perfect. I have also tried on bridesmaids dresses and found a 16 is about right. If you order your sister a bridal size 12, that will be around a street size 6-8. Don't get caught up in the number -- no one's going to see your label, but they WILL see if the dress doesn't fit.

My sister is stressed about wedding planning, I asked what she needed and I am now in charge of ordering her wedding dress. The dress is from Amsale's Little White Dress Collection (no stores in our area so I'm ordering over the telephone).
Here's the problem: We've argued about the size I should order for her. I know it's none of my buisness and I should just do what she wants, but she is focused on the number and doesn't realize the sizing could be different than everyday clothing retailers.
I've looked at the Amsale size chart numerous times, googled used dresses, and from what I gather a size 12 is made for a 28-29.5 inch waist. My sister is a street size 12/14 (32 inch waist ). She thinks a 12 is going to be big if she can drop 15 lbs (if she doesn't lose she can't send the dress back if it doesn't fit, if it's too big she can easily have it altered).
I've explained sizing to her multiple times. I've sent her the link to Saks.com size chart (they carry some of the LWD collection) and she still adamant on the 12.
Does anyone know anything about Amsale sizing and can confirm what I've read?
