I ordered my dress online and I loved, loved, loved it! I looked around for months and could not find a dress that reconciled with the idea in my head. When I finally found the dress of my dreams, it was a Chinese wholesalers website. They didn’t even have an actual photo of the dress, just a still from a movie scene showing the wedding dress they copied. But it was perfect, and I hadn’t seen anything like it anywhere else. Ordering it was a complete act of faith, but I went with it. It arrived in exactly one month, just as the website said it would. The quality was amazing and the fit was fantastic (it needed $27 worth of alterations). I was stressed every minute of that month, but it was worth it.

Here is a link to the photo on the website: http://www.lightinthebox.com/Audrey-Hepburn-Funny-Face-Ball-Gown-Bateau-Tea-length-Satin-Tulle-Celebrity-Wedding-Dress–WSM0363-_p61496.html

And here is my dress:

Hope this helps!!! Best of luck finding the perfect dress!

I wouldn’t do it.  some here have had good experiences, some have had awful ones.  To me it depends on how much time and money you have to gamble.  I have one shot at dress buying, financially, so I can’t risk a screw up.

There are also sites that sell genuine designer dresses at lower prices, depending on what you’re looking for.  If you have more info on the dress maybe I can look for you.  For example the dress I want is usually $1000 to 1200 and I have found it for $635 online, from a legit store, not a copy. Then there is another legit dealer who will meet any legit price and beat it by 5% so I will go that route and save another $30 or so.

@HotPinkPopTart:  Check it out.  PS Bridal (plusssizebridal.com, but they also carry non-plus size stuff) has this dress you want for $678:

You have to add it to the cart for the price to show.

Best Bridal Prices (another legit online retailer) has it for $849.00

Best Bridal prices has a price match offer though where they will beat any price by 5% and I just emailed them about MY dress, using PSBridal’s price and they are matching it.  They took PS Bridal’s price plus the shipping that PSBridal charges and then totalled that and beat it by 5%, so for me, instead of paying PSBridal’s $637 plus shipping, BestBridalPrices will give it to me for $619.  Laughing

I just realized that BestBridalPrices is a bad example as they only have one in stock (unless that is in your size)..BUT it’s also cheaper than I said ($700-something!) but my point is, try websites that are legit and do price matching.  Or just go with PlusSizeBridal.  The reason I am doing the price match thing is because while I hadn’t heard anything bad about PS Bridal there was just MORE info out there on BestBridalPrices, plus the extra 5% off is nice..

I haven’t ordered yet but if you search weddingbee you will be able to read what others have experienced.

Try NetBride.com.  When I was looking for other dresses (different designers) they had the BEST prices every time.  You have to email them for a quote, but they are super fast in replying. I’ve heard very good things about them.  The only reason I won’t get my dress from them is that they don’t carry the designer I decided I want. Frown

Try http://www.houseofbrides.com , http://www.ebridalsuperstore.com , http://www.princessbridalgowns.com (haven’t checked them out totally but they have a brick & mortar store in TX), jaysbridal.com, tomsbridal.com, just to name a few.  Oh and everyone swear’s by Pearls Place (google it), but you have to call for a price quote there as well (and they didn’t carry my dress, but might carry yours).

Anyway, lots of legwork can pay off! The super-bargain hunter in me thinks I can still find my dress for less than $619 but if I don’t I’ll be content that I still saved about $400 on it!

Hope this helps.

I had a good experience with http://www.bridepower.com/default.aspx

it sells discounted “real gown”, mostly samples, if you don’t mind.  I found my dream gown which has a retailed tag of 8K… and I got it from it for 1K!!!  My friend got a Vera Wang for $300!!!  I was quite happy with the gown when it arrived. It is near perfect condition.  However, I ended up returning it because it will cost me significant $$$ to bustle and alternate it.  I was quite worry-free because they give you 3 days to return for full refund.  Ended up I spent $80 non-refundable shipping ($40 express shipping with insurance each way) but got my full refund of the dress back in 3 days after the gown arrived back to them.

You can use their gown locater service if you were in a hurry.  I just check it regularly and they have new stuff quite often!  Good luck!

My sister had a very low-key wedding (about 12 people in attendance), and ordered a wedding gown from JCrew.com.  It was a bit of a gamble, but in the end it turned out great. It’s very similar to the one below.
