I get the reasoning behind EATING organic, but is the reasoning behind WEARING organic that it’s good for the planet, that it’s better for my kid, or both?
I see all these “organic” options for onesies and swaddling blankets and such, and I’m not really sure what factors I’m supposed to be weighing here in determining what to get… help?

We are choosing organic clothing and bedding for our son whenever possible. It’s better for the planet AND better for the person wearing the clothing. This is because
- Cotton crops are very heavy users of pesticides. It takes one pound of pesticide and insecticide to produce one pair of jeans and a T-shirt.
- The EPA considers 7 of the top 15 pesticides used on cotton crops to be cancer causing.
- Children are at a greater risk from the heath effects of pesticicdes than adults.

I have some cellular blankets I bought for the baby that are organic bamboo and they are so lovely and soft compared to the cotton ones. As far as clothes go, the majority of what we have was given to us from family. Even though they’re second hand they’re hardly worn and I figure it’s helping out the environment by recycling the clothing rather than buying everything new.
