Hi! So, I just started using ortho evra today for the first time (This is the first time I've ever used bc at all). I'm just wondering how people have liked it and if other's experienced some of the side-effects within the first twenty-four hours? I read reviews online but most people were telling the patch horror stories...I figure if my doctor is letting me use it then there has to be people out here who love it and do well on it!

@kyrstien:  I only used it for a month, perhaps two, because my insurance would only cover pills.  However, I loved both the patch and the Nuvaring and I don't remember having any side effects with either.  If my insurance ever ends up covering either of them, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I don't think you are likely to see side effects in the first 24 hours of any BC.

That being said, I used it for a few months but it was super annoying.  Basically, the only place I could put it was my butt and my jeans would always rip up the sides of it and I was always worried that it was detaching and I wasn't fully protected.  I also am iffy on it now that I know more since it does have a higher risk of blood clots that other BC.  One person I know from high school got blood clots from it and she couldn't go on any hormonal BC afterward (common side effect in African Americans).

I use Nuvaring now, I really like it.

I am on the patch due to the mal-absorptive side effects of having had gastric bypass surgery, and I LOVE it.  No pills to remember, no ring falling out at *the* worst time. You have to have a certain amount of body fat though...the instances of people developing blood clots were most commonly those with not enough body fat to properly absorb the hormones through the skin.
