The Executive Lounge at the Hilton Barcelona Diagonal Mar is stunning. One of the best Hilton lounges in the world.  You have to be a hotel guest staying on the executive floor to get access (you will either book directly into the Executive level when you reserve, which costs a bit more, or get upgraded if you already have status with Hilton).  They do a really nice Spanish/Continental breakfast in the morning and tapas and cocktails in the late afternoon, and there’s a massive open-air deck overlooking the Mediterranean. it’s on about the 28th floor. Just a gorgeous place. I would love to go back.

There are tons of good restaurants in Barcelona. Avoid the chains and have lots of tapas. You will be happy.

FWIW they speak Catalonian in Barcelona, not Spanish, so you may want to brush up on a few phrases.  Finding someone who speaks English is hit-or-miss depending on the neighborhood you’re in, and because of the current separatist movement underway in the whole Catalan region, many people will flat-out refuse to speak spanish with you.

Barcelona is beauttttiful!  Definitely go to Las Ramblas, the street is filled with vendors and performers.  We got delicious smoothies in the morning, and the colours are amazing.

And Sagrada Familia was that amazing church that Gaudi created…it’s still not finished being built and I can’t remember how long ago it started, but it’s been many many years!

We only had less than half a day in Barcelona, so that’s all that I can recommend 🙂

Just responding so I can come back.  We’re also going to Barcelona (Barcelona to Nice).  If you have any recommendations on where to stay that won’t break the bank, that’d be great as well.

Good to know Spanish won’t help.  I’ll have to learn a few phrases.  Thanks for the tip!
