Ou Venue screwed up

    I think you’re setting your sights WAY too high. It’s not reasonable to ask for 30% or more refunded when the venue sounds like they acted in good faith to solve the problem, and just were facing a very challenging problem to solve.  They had an elevator go out, which isn’t exactly an easy problem to fix nor one that is easy to predict will happen.  I would ask them to refund 20% (if that) and call it even on the pipe.  

    As to the broken beer bottles, as they say, “pics or it didn’t happen,” unfortunately if you did not document it or ask the venue to fix it, then for a claim-and-counterclaim situation it really doesn’t exist. it’s your word against theirs, which doesn’t put you in a good position.

    Is your wedding date correct? Hurricane Sandy was a YEAR ago, how the heck are their elevators still broken from that? I’d aim for 25 or 30% refund. You and your guests all had to climb what sounds like a ridiculous amount of stairs, and I don’t understand why the cocktail hour was segregated into different groups. Also, they gave you a dirty hotel room and didn’t clean the bathtub? I know you’d need pics to prove it, but that just sounds like a bad place to me. Sucks that it was your wedding!!

    I’m sorry but why did the elevator being down push your ceremony back 50 minutes? I understand you said the building was a maze but if it was really that bad I don’t understand why the elevator would have helped you cut off an hour of searching so I personally don’t think this is really the venue’s fault. The only other problem I see is the elderly having to use the stairs. I don’t think this even warrants a 30% reimbursement.

    I’m not sure about a percent, but it sounds like you lost nearly an hour (5pm ceremony pushed to 5:50pm) due to the venue’s issues. So I would figure out what an hour of photography and videography cost and ask for that AT MINIMUM. You also lost time hanging out with your friends and family at cocktail hour, which you really can’t put a price on. I would maybe ask for a stay in the hotel (which I’m assuming this venue is) for several nights for you and your hubby.

    I might also ask for some kind of extra money to go to your DOC(s), because it sounds like they did a superlative job.

    i would suggest maybe they can cover any costs for the ceremony and cocktail hour.  these were both really affected by the elevators.  i am not sure what percentage that would equate to but i would personally look at it that way.

    I understand it is frustering, but I think 20% is reasonable. I agree with everything @Horseradish:  said.
