So my SO and I moved in together in March into a 1 bedroom apartment that has a small yard attached. I really worked hard to make it our own, on a BUDGET. It feels very much like a little house because we worked hard to make it liveable. I painted a few walls (which we will have to re-paint before moving out) and really put our own spin on our new little apartment.
Another thing we did was schedule our “housewarming” party for just about a month after move in so that we had a deadline to make the place look the way we really wanted. I really suggest this idea, because we could have spent months shopping for items and making decisions. This way, in under a month, we were fully settled in and could celebrate with friends and family while it still felt so new.
I’m just getting around to sharing these pics almost 6 months after, but I really wanted to share what we pulled off with a small budget!
Before pics of Kitchen, breakfast nook, and yard…
Bathroom- I painted stripes to make it seem bigger as well as to make it seem likt it’s own “room” since it’s the only other room besides the bedroom. I wanted it to be it’s own moment.
Kitchen area with breakfast nook and eat up bar. (I didn’t get a great shot of the kitchen other than my wonderful SO cooking for the party!)
Our Gallery wall
And our yard! (with our cutie pie pup!)
It’s totally easy to build a beautiful *little* home on a budget!

You guys did an amazing job and nothing about this says BUDGET! I love the stripes in the bathroom and that you chose neutral colours it looks so refined. Your gallery wall is amazing. Over all it looks like a beautiful “home” and well lived in and loved and a gresat representation of the two of you. amazing job.

edepp2010: Wow, I’m so jealous of people whom decorating comes so easily to, that looks awesome!

Miss Coral: missjz: MrsMKB: Thank you all! We don’t have many guests other than family, so I was excited to get a little insight from some unbiased people!

mchitt329: Haha, not too easy! But thank you!
I’ve been saving so many ideas on Pinterest, and I felt like this was really my time to make it look great. Our next home should be one we have purchased, so I may not have any extra funds to decorate. I figured since this is OUR first place, I wanted to do everything I could to make it memorable. Before our home is full of kids toys and dirty laundy someday!

It looks beautiful!! It all ties together so nicely, and I think buying furniture appropriate for apartment size really makes the unit look so much bigger and more spacious. Good decisions 🙂

edepp2010: that bedroom and bathroom look like they are straight out of a magazine! And the picture wall looks just like it came from Pinterest! Way to go- you’ve totally inspired me to start thinking how I could make our tiny apartment feel more like our tiny HOME! 🙂 Great work!!!

Wow! Looks great! Tempts me to paint my rented townhouse.. but – do you have to paint it all back when you leave? I guess maybe since its so cute the new tenants will want to keep the paint colors. I painted an apartment once and it sure was a pain having to paint all the walls back to white a couple years later.

ykyegbride: Thank you!!!
Some of our furniture decisions I’m really happy with. The bed was in the “dented” section at Ikea (about $175), but the dent was so small and was easily fixed! The dining table was something SO already had, but it came from Wal-mart. I LOVE that it is about 10 inches talled than a regular table, but not bar height. It makes it feel like there’s no wasted space. Our couch has a chaise that can be switched to either side, so it will fit in any home we choose!
pinkandgold88: Thank you so much! I really used all of my pinterest inspiration to get everything done! The bedroom mirror was a Pinterest DIY made of plastic spoons on foam board, hand painted to look ombre. It looks so expensive for something made of hot glue! Thanks Pinterest!!!

Scarlett11: Yeah, i’ll have to paint them back, but I felt that it was worth the effort. They supply the original paint color for free, so It’s not like I have to go buy it myself. My mom was the one who told me to DEFINITELY paint it, because I’ll enjoy it so much more for the time being. She’ll help me re-paint when the time comes:)
MrsMcQN: bbbria: Thanks ladies. You make me feel so proud of our little place.
