So we are building our house starting on tuesday!! excitement or what! So instead of creating what it feels like billions of threads Im just going to post this one and as it progresses update the thread :)

So heres the block ladies and me doing a starting attempt at jumping up in the air. I have video footage but that doesnt upload very well.. and i am aware that this picture is not flattering and i look like a muppet :)  but its the hazards of being super excited :D The block is located in a new divizion in my city. The block is 621sqm

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding Houses 015 Small

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 002 SmallMy My mum is an architect and she designed our house for us. We had a choice of several plans but this one worked on the block the best because the block is bigger at the front and smaller at the back. A bit like a battle axe. Its pretty roomy but designed to be on a modest budget.

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Picture

We have chosen our brick colour is which is a cream colour with a white colorbond roof and piping and a white double garage door. The idea is to keep this neat looking in colour and design.

We will have a dark grey driveway with silver boarder...

We are doing tiles throughout the house except for the bedrooms and theatre room. Which will be carpet.

    Here is our carpet selection.

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build Small

Next pic is our cupboard selection -

In order is our kickboard, cabinet colour and then the benchtop colour. I dont have a pic of the main floor tile that we are using throughout the house but it is extremely similar to the bench top!  a dark grey. I will run the same cupboard selection in the laundry also.

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 007 Small

The bathroom and ensuite will be a little differant. In order the dark grey as the kickboard and then the cabinet and benchtop will be the lighter one in gloss.

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 010 Small

I have chosen a plain white long tile that will be on all bathroom walls, kitchen splash back and laundry splash back. Keep it consistent. Very similar to the pic below, but i didnt have a pic of the actual tile to show you. Sorry! Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 016 Small

I have chosen differant feature tiles.

This one below will be the guest bathroom and it will be positioned just as one strip in the shower area running up from the shower floor to the end of the tiling.  It wont appear above the cupboards. Didnt want to go over board :) and wanted to let the cabinet be the main feature so to speak.

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 015 Small

Here I have chosen this tile to go in the kitchen and it will just go in line with the oven stove top and will be two strips if that makes sense. It wont go length ways round the kitchen. I thought that was overboard.

Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 014 Small

This photo looks like it has a bit of brown in it. It doesnt.. its very much clear glossy grey.

Anyway.. so what do you think??

Next bit we have to chose is paint colours!  And im going to be boring and go white :) i think. Hubs wants to paint the ceiling a diff colour but im not so sure!

    @eloping: thank you!

@tksjewelry: im loving some of the trends im seeing these days. Im trying to play it kinda "safe" in choosing colours. It takes me so long to choose! but hubs and i solve everything with rock paper scissors. I tend to win if we are stuck on something.

@ccranetobe: My FH never wins or I would end up with stuff like this all over my house.  And he would find a way to incorporate it into everything.

@ccranetobe:  I am actually so proud of him, he pick up the GM suits today, and he picked himself up a french cuff shirt that fit perfectly.  It is the first thing he has bought that I haven't returned.

I am dying over that carpet, I just saved it to show the FH.  We just picked out a really light steal grey for the walls and something similar would look amazing with that color and the Stainless steal fireplace the FH is making.

Good luck! We built our home in 2009 and are currently planning to build another in about 5 years. We had such a wonderful process and loved it so much I don't think we would ever buy a preexisting home. Enjoy it!

when we married i took the entire house full of his stuff (he owns this house) and shoved it in one room and told him "this is your room"      :)

then i promptly redecorated - what is it with guys and black furniture?  it had to go!

@eloping: lol i loveee black funiture. Its a lil classic but i love brightening it up with pops of colour. Easy to clean too.  Mind you i was a bit of a tomboy growing up so that could have something to do with it.

@tksjewelry: wooo for the FH in choosing his shirt. Glad you like the carpet. Took about half an hour to choose. But i made sure i asked alot of questions. Its actually stainproof carpet. :)

@ccranetobe: not this type of black furniture - think black with gold trimming or smokey glass with gold trim - all very greek/italian 1980's

@ccranetobe: I love all the grey tones.  It will be so easy to accessorize to add pops of color.  It would be easy to switch up the look from season to season since grey goes with everything.

Cant wait to see additional pictures as work progresses.

That is so cool that your mom designed your house plan! Love all the color choices that you have made!  Super jealous of all the space you have! :)

What will go in the theatre room?  I've never seen that in a house before.

Can't wait to see more of your house updates!

@BrooklynBride10: Theatre room is pretty much a fancy term for tv/lounge room. We have set it up tho so it will have downlights and lowered ceiling. Just like your at the movies so to speak.

@choolove: Thanks! we managed to get a pretty roomy block. There are a lot in our division that are alot smaller so we feel pretty lucky.

@Mrs. DG: Thanks! they think they can have the concrete pad down next week. Its pretty crazy how fast the progress will happen. Weather permitting!

So update is that its day 3 of building and all grass has been scraped off and there is now just compacted white sand, on monday they will start laying the cement pad down.Realisation.. omgoodness we are actually building. Curiousity is getting to me on how big the actual house could be. Its all well and good to look at it on paper, but to be on the ground and trying to visualise is a little hard. I will be heading out to the block to take a picture, but didnt want to bore you all!

We chose paint colours today. We are choosing what they call a 'Alpaca White for all walls except for three feature walls which is called a 'soft metallic' its a darker grey.

Dont have the pics of the paint yet, but a small swatch, which doesnt photograph too well.

Btw, heres our floor tile! Which comes in large and small squares. I manage to finally get a picture. The one below (white)is our splashback and wall bathroom tile. Our building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 017 SmallOur building fun! - the progress : wedding House Build 022 Small

@bakerella: actually basements are not the done thing in oz really. Theres no point. I havent actually been in a house with a basement. :/ I may be a rarity but it probably be really odd if someone had a basement at all.

Best of luck with your building! Its a great feeling to be on that path!

That's super exciting that your cement pad is down - I think they usually start framing right away after that - so once the framing is done you should really be able to visualize things!
