@alotlikelove:  I would be beside myself! Are they microchipped? Do they wear collars? I would put up posters and call local shelters and vet clinics to alert them. Why not stay at the new house while your FI takes your dad home? Sending prayers your way…

Don’t leave for the night! Everything else can wait, these are living creatures whose lives are your responsibility. They might find their way back but then take off for good when they don’t find you there. You need to give them every chance to find you while also looking for them.

Do you give them any treats? My cat always comes running if I shake any random bag because she thinks she’s getting something special. Do you both have to bring back his dad? Why don’t you stay at the new place and wait it out. Keep going outside every few minutes and call them in a way they might be familiar with. Cats have a good sense of smell so they should be able to figure out a way back.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. This happened to my Grandma after she moved, and the cat showed up within 24 hours. She put food and water outside near her garage and was able to keep an eye on it and shoe away other critters. I’m not sure if this would work for you though.

I’m so sorry that this has happened and I know distressing it is.  Cats generally don’t go very far from where they escape so chances are they’re still close by.  Since they’re in an unfamiliar area, they are probably hiding somewhere warm, so check crawl spaces, garages, and other places that provide shelter.  Also, let your new neighbors know so they can keep an eye out for them.

I hope you find your babies soon.

My cat once got out less than a week after I had moved to a new place.  He was gone for almost a week and I was dying wondering if he would ever come back.  He finally did though and he howled at the front door so keep an ear out for your babies.  Keep food and water and whatever stuff you have that smells like you.  They will come back!
