I'm so sorry your doggie is stick! I hope it's just a side effect of the meds and they can get it resolved.
I'm sorry to hear this! Like missasb said, hopefully it's a side effect of her meds and they can switch her to something else. As for the financial aspect, have you looked into health insurance? It's expensive but might be worth it. Also, you can take out a care credit, credit card and there is no interest for a year I think. I forget the website but you can google "care credit".
We had a cat on phenob when I was growing up. Hopefully it's just a side effect of her meds and she'll be on her way to recovery in no time! You're in my thoughts.
Oh naangel I am thinking of you. My heart goes out to you and I am sending *hugs* your way. Hang in there and hug that pup. Insurance is helpful but it can be a bit more expensive because they tend to have pre-existing condition clauses. Check with your local vet or VPI. Try to shop around!
Sending good vibes your way! I hope your dog gets better soon - you sound like a great mom :)

So our dog Roxy, is a toy poodle that has always had seizures and been on medication for them that works pretty well. However because of the medication she has a urine incosistency problem (which means she sleeps right through peeing and usually wets our bed) so she takes pills for that too that usually help. She is 7 and has been having more problems with peeing lately so we took her to the vet for testing.
They tested her kidney and liver levels and they can back normal so they tested her bile acid level in her liver and its way off the charts. Normal levels are 13-20 and hers are 136. So of course we are terrified she has incurable liver disease which is pretty much a silent killer in dogs. She has to have an ultrasound next week to see if she has a tumor or if the seizure medication (phenobarbital) is what is causing her kidney problems. This is very likely as it is a side effect of the phenobarb but she needs that to not have seizures. We are going to have to wein her off that and start her on another anti-seizure drug that doesnt affect the liver and start giving her milk thistle which can help with liver problems.
But not knowing what is wrong with her is the worst part and we are terrified that they will find out she has liver disease. Id just be happy with her wetting the bed every night for the next 5 years if it means she wont have liver disease. Its scary because the vet doesnt say she will be ok, even though I know he cant say that because he wont know what is wrong until he does the ultrasound. My parents are going to help us cover the cost, we can pay for the ultrasound but if she needs a biospy which I think she will, its over $1000. I hate to even think about it and would obviously want to do anything for her but dont know that we could if the costs keep adding and adding up. I should add other than her pre-existing condition (peeing and rare seizures), nothing is wrong with her. We would have no idea of her high levels if they hadnt ordered the bile test because all her enzyme levels and other levels were normal.
Not really looking for suggestions (though they are welcome!) but more happy thoughts for us. Or if anyone else has ever had this problem, your experience and knowledge (good or bad, but prefer good!) would be appreciated. Sorry for the rambling, just looking for a place to write everything out. Thanks for reading it all!
