Boy and I took a trip in April to Australia and New Zealand. We love to travel and this was another trip for us. Sure, it was special, but I was not expecting it to be as special as it was.
We spent some time in Aus and then made our way to NZ. One of the days that we were there, Boy had made a plan for us to go lugeing (rolling cart down a mountain style) followed by kayaking on a river. I was shocked by this because I had been bugging Boy to go kayaking for over 3 years and he refused. He is nervous of lakes and rivers because you can't see the bottom usually and he thinks there are loads of nasty creatures floating around waiting to slime his toes.
Boy was being a little wierd that day but I brushed it off with him being nervous about kayaking but sucking it up for my sake. I was excited and telling him how great it would be. We got to the rental shop, changed into clothes that could get wet, got a boat and went on our way.
Kayaking was great! Looking back on it, I don't remember much but being on the water was awesome and I felt good afterwards. We were sitting on the dock and, since he planned the day, I asked him what was next. He said to me, "Well, we could hang out here and maybe just talk for a while. Or we could shoot some photos. Or I could read you a poem."
I laughed in his face.
"A poem? Haha, right. You are just going to bust out a poem? Are you going to collaborate with that duck over there?" I laughed and actually pointed at a black duck floating on the water.
"No, I have a poem." He seemed nervous and sure of himself all at once. He reached into the pocket of his swim trunks and pulled out a sheet of paper. In that moment I knew something was really happening because, honestly, who carries poetry around in the pocket of their swim trunks?
He proceeded to read this sweet + funny poem that was truly our story. I laughed in all the right places but was crying happily by the end. He ended the poem by asking me to marry him as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful ring.
If we had been standing, I would have pushed him into the water. Hahaha.
I tackled him and said yes and covered his cute face with kisses!
It was a perfect, private moment for the two of us. :)
