So, my search for a ring has been…long and drawn out and exhausting, really. I am not a jewelery kind of girl, and SO and I really didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a ring. After months (seriously, we’ve been looking since February), I found a setting I’m absolutely in love with. Seriously, I tried it on and went, “YUP, this is the one!” However, it’s an aquamarine center, and I really wanted moissanite, so we’re having him set it for us. Here’s where the problems started:
- He hasn’t really worked with moissanite a lot. He offered to price it for me, and he came back with $400 for a FB moissy in a 6×4 oval. UH NO. I looked everywhere, and all of the sites (moissaniteco, charles and culvard, etc) have it at $189. So we agreed that I would purchase the stone and bring it in to be set.
- The ring (with the aqua stone) is only $235. In a different conversation, we were told that the setting itself was $135 and that to set the moissy, it would be about $25. I was thinking when we went in, he’d want around $200 for the setting, to put in the moissy, and for tax, etc.
When we talked to him on the phone today, he said that it would be around $300. I just don’t get where the extra cost is coming in. I know people are going to tell me to STFU because I’m basically getting the ring of my dreams for $500. But I hate feeling like I’m being taken advantage of. I can’t see where it would possibly cost that much, especially considering that he’s keeping the aqua stone!
SO talked to them on the phone today to tell them the moissy is on the way (YAYYY!) and that we’ll be in on Monday to drop it off. I guess I’ll just talk to them then about the pricing difference.
I don’t want to go anywhere else, because I think that setting is custom to the shop and it’s taken me so long to find what I want. I know people will probably tell me to just suck it up, but I just hate this feeling!
Can anyone think of why the price may have gone up?
