hahahaah that's the funniest thing i've heard in a while. you go girl!
I'm on your FI's side for this one...but this is still pretty funny!
ha! i'm glad it's all in good fun, but i think you should read this and see why your fiance is right: http://currentconfig.com/2005/02/22/essential-life-lesson-1-over-is-right-under-is-wrong/
Psh, under is just wrong, I'm with your FI! lol. According to cnet (yes, people actuall study this apparantely!), 70% say over =P

@laceywings: i love the fact that someone took the scientific time to do all the research and presentation for this
@laceywings: Love that, haha.
Thankfully FI and I both approve of over, but I would so be winning that battle if he felt otherwise ;)
That's halarious! What fun would it be living with a boy if you couldn't "fight" with him and maybe eventually get your way??
lol.
However here is another vote that your FI is correct ;)
Think it is time to come to the dark side.. the side where the TP goes OVER! :D
@sweetpea87: Over is most definitely correct, except when you do have a cat then one has to live with under or face buying 38 rolls of TP every week.
On a related note, we did have a similar passive-aggressive situation with the AC temp in the car during a drive this weekend :)

This is one of the cutest battles I've ever heard of!!! Sounds like something I'd do with my DH!!! :)
I don't even look when I put our TP on. I think FI has a preference, though. He can switch it around if he wants. :)
Sorry, I'm with your FI! My FI and I had the same debate when we moved in together. It drives me nuts when it's under!
OVER, OVER, OVER!!! Luckily, hubby and I agree on this! lol. A friend posted on this on Facebook a while ago, and everyone except on person said over. That one person was like, "It's easier to tear off when it's under!"...um...it's TOILET PAPER! It's not hard to tear no matter which direction the roll goes! lol!
I dont even check ... if FI actually changes the roll instead of setting it on top I consider that an acheivement in itself
Lol this is hilarious! I'm also with your FI though. Under is just so wrong!!
ETA - I have 2 cats and have never in the 5 yrs I've had them had an issue with them and the TP!
Cute battle, but I think you should give up! I'm with your FI.
My husband and I agree--it always goes over. Our cats have never been into the toilet paper roll, so it's never been a problem.
I'm with your FI as well. But if you want to be realy silly, you should get one of the new roll holders that's wooden, and then just screw the dowel in so he cannot flip it over easily :-) Just to be a practical joker, hehe.
@PitBulLover: My cat waits outside the bathroom door until someone opens it just the smallest crack, then makes a beeline for the TP, claws it off into a big pile then attempts to eat it. Not so good.
So, we got back home Christmas night, and I've switched the roll back 3 times. It's getting heated. Hahaha. Seeing as he's a guy, I expect he's checking the roll every time he walks in, just to see if I switched it back. But he hasn't said anything yet!
Really, everyone likes it over?? I always feel like I have less control on how much I pull when it's over. Plus, I think it looks much neater under. Hehe.
Ha! Love that graphic. I agree with your FI. I like it Over because it's easier to find the end (for me at least). My DH always puts it Under when he changes the roll. Then I go and turn it around too, like you. But he never changes it back; guess he doesn't care as much as I do. I've heard the Cat argument before, but my cat has never bothered it, even though he hangs out in the bathroom while I shower.
Fortunately we both agree that "over" is the way to go. What I CAN'T stand though, is that when it's time to change the roll, I always put a new roll of nice fluffy charmin...by the time I need to use the bathroom again, he's changed it to some gross single ply paper that he swiped from a hotel on one of our vacations. Drives me out of my mind!!!
I definitely like it over. With that said, my FI has a huuuuge problem with changing the roll when its finished. I got fed up but didn't want it to make it a huge issue, so I wrote on the empty roll in sharpie: "Dear _____, When you don't change the roll when it's done, my bum gets sad. Love, _____"
He still leaves the rolls empty but it was pretty hilarious when he found it :)
HEHEHE... I'm with FI...there's not much hubby and I agree on but 'Over' isn't one of the battles we fight.
Our toilet paper fight is who replaces it more often...he seems to think he does right now. So I said it's fair b/c his butt is bigger, he _____ more, and not true!! We replace equally. So to prove the point or keep track of who changes it we had a little game that I started... I put a huge :P on the roll and stuck it on top of one of his toiletry bottles so he knew I'd changed it and that went back and forth for a few times.
Now a changed roll just sits sadly on the counter by itself, when he does it sometimes there's a 1/4 in left on the roll..so I see why he thought I 'never change it' our concept of empty is different.
@Wonderstruck: That's really cute you found that image!! I have a passive agressive day calendar that says something about TP also I'll scan and upload when I remember :)
This is acutally pretty funny. Before DH moved in, I wasn't even aware of the way I put the toilet paper. DH is pretty adamant about it being over, I don't understand the difference but I usually go along when I remember
This is too funny! I'm gonna have to agree with your FI on this one too, over is better! lol
This is hilarious...I don't care but I once dated a guy who couldn't stand the roll being under.
Your fiance better stand his ground on this one!!! It goes over!!!
@Goodatlove: I love the pic you posted!
Here's the one I mentioned before..

So I thought of this thread the other night when I was out to eat and the TP was under. It took me almost FIVE minutes to get enough TP out to wipe. Every time I tried to pull it ripped into shreds because it was a full roll so it was gripped just right and the paper was thin -still 2 ply but thin. I actually had to use 2 hands to get it out. One to smooth it around and push it through and another to pull it out. Pain.in.The.Ass. I am officially an over. Go Team Over!
Team over! Here's my rationale: if you put it under, chances are you may tap the wall/whatever the TP is anchored to a couple times while gathering your paper. And if you go in for multiple wipes, it means you're touching said wall with possibly...dirty fingers. So then you have the issue of you touching the wall with your dirty fingers and OTHER PEOPLE that have also touched the wall with their dirty fingers. I mean...even if you clean that wall once a week, still. There's that whole week of wall touching with dirty fingers.
When you put the roll over, people are touching the roll, and likely taking the paper they touched with them.
OK, I know that's really lame. But we all have our reasons, rational or not! :)

So since I'm moving in with my fiance next week (so excited!!), I've decided it's time to start imposing my will on one specific issue: the toilet paper roll. I firmly believe it's better under, but he puts it over. So I've been changing it during this weekend's visit. So far, I've switched it twice, and he's switched it back both times, and hasn't said anything. But every time I see it switched, I'm just gonna switch it back. I really just want to see how long it takes for him to bring it up. :-)
We've had debates over it before, of course, but no, this isn't something we're gonna fight over. If TP is that important to him, he can have it. I'll learn to live with wrong toilet paper. This is just really funny to me. :-D We're on 3 days so far, but I'm leaving tonight. The count will resume next week!
