So, I realize I’m a little late on the proposal story, but in my defense, I’ve never noticed the section. After reading others’ sweet stories, I wanted to share ours. It wasn’t the shortest journey to get here, but it was one we needed to take.
Our Story 🙂
I met my fiance 3.5 years ago on Halloween at a friend of a friend’s birthday party. I guess you can say we both knew it was something special because we started dating exclusively after that night.
Five months into the relationship we moved in together. Yes, it was quick but it fit our needs at the time (my roommate was moving out and his parents were moving to Greece and he was looking for a place to live). It wasn’t the most romantic decision but we loved each other and it was what we needed at the time. After a year of living together, we moved to a suburb an hour away from our family and friends. It was here where our relationship was tested. We loved each other very much but I could tell E wasn’t satisfied. He told me one night in January that he wanted to try living alone. I was devastated. I didn’t understand. He said he didn’t want to break up but he needed to live on his own for a little while (something he had never experienced). I moved out a month later and we navigated our way through the relationship for the following few months.
Memorial Day weekend, what seemed to be out of the blue, he broke up with me. I.was.pissed. Then, I was sad. We spent the (awful) summer apart and reconnected in late August. It was then that he told me how much he loved me, missed me, realized how unhappy his life was without me and that he was going to marry me.
Fast forward to our trip to Vegas in January. We decided to take the 5 hour trip to the Grand Canyon. I was checking the weather the entire way there (50 and sunny) and as we got closer the weather looked worse and worse. When we finally arrived it was 30 degrees and a blizzard outside. We couldn’t see a thing and my shoes were soaked. E didn’t have a plan b apparently, so we started calling around for hotel rooms. As we were making other arrangements, the sky started to clear and we went to a lookout point. He told me to look out and he was going to take a picture. When I turned around, he was down on one knee (well actually, two knees- it was extremely windy). I immediately started balling. He actually asked me twice because he couldn’t hear me say yes the first time. I literally cried for 10 minutes, which is ridiculous because I kind of thought it was going to happen.
Anyway, he’s my love, my confidant, my support and he makes me incredibly happy. I’m so excited to start the next chapter of our lives together.
