Please calm me down– will it be gone before the wedding? It showed up about 10 days ago, and has spread (started on his arm, now can be seen on his torso, neck, and legs– it seriously looks like he has chicken pox). Also, I’m freaking out that somehow I’ll end up with some! I got it last fall and it lasted over 5 weeks… I’m worried that I’ll get it on my arms or neck (areas that won’t be covered by my strapless dress)!! He’s been putting cortisone cream on his arm and that’s faded; is there anything else to use that will get rid of it more quickly? Help me, bees!

After the initial outbreak it shouldn’t spread. It is caused by the oil on the plant, so if its on his hands and he touches his leg he would break out on his hand and leg. But once it starts and he washed off the oil it shouldn’t spread. If it has spread its not poison ivy and he should get checked by a doctor. If it was poison ivy, and he treats it regularly I would think it would be gone by the wedding. I know for bad cases you can get steroid shots to help, but it depends on how severe it it.

Get some poison ivy soap or scrub, we’ve used Technu before with good results. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/tecnu-extreme-medicated-poison-ivy-scrub/ID=prod1385962-product
It’s cheaper on Amazon, but you probably want it faster than that, I’m guessing. Good luck! Pharmacists may also be able to recommend a good product.
