I should have done this a long time ago, but better late than never right?
My fiance picked me up after my last final (he tricked me and told me that his finals would take longer than they would so that he could finish up the preprations). He had been planning on proposing when we went home for Christmas, so he decided to propose before we flew out that night so I’d be more surprised. He met me with flowers, but I wasn’t suspicious because he ofen does that on special days (like the end of finals). When he started driving away from home I was a little confused and asked where we were going. I thought he might be taking me for one of my favorite snackes (deli chicken strips and potato wedges, mmmm) and was a little disappointed when he drove past the grocery store.
When we got to our local outdoor mall I was a little suspicious, because we’d gone to eat there on our first date, but not too much because it was beautiful and all decked out for Christmas. But, I became extra suspicious when he said we were going to Tucanos, the all you can eat Brazilian steak house from our first date. (oops, now I’m hungry. We’re usually semi vegitarian, but …). I got pretty suspicious when I asked to put my hand in his jacket pocket (it had to be the coldest night of the winter!) and he deflected. But, I really didn’t want to ruin his surprise, so I tried not to think anything of it.
We enjoyed a delicious meal (and by we I mean me, poor Fiance was too nervous to fully enjoy it, so I tried to eat enough for both of us with much success). And he kept not proposing, which I was kind of glad about because we’d talked about how I didn’t want a public proposal. Afterwards we went outside and looked at the lights when he told me he had an early Christmas present. He pulleld out of his jacket pocket a very small teddy bear. I was a little disappointed (was he really acting so nervous over a bear?). But, mostly relieved because I didn’t really want him to propose there. I was actually composing my Weddingbee post about how he hadn’t proposed and it was great in my mind as we walked back to the car.
But then he drove past his house on our way back and to the park across the street. I then became very suspicious (yes, I am fast on the uptake). He had asked his cousin to set up a ‘picnic’ with daisies and candles in mason jars and John Ledgend music, surrounded by a heart of candles and he proposed. Of course I said yes. We shopped together for the ring, but he made the final choice, so I was curious to see it. But it was dark and we were pretty excited about just being engaged. When he finally showed it to me I loved it, and it fit perfectly which was my big concern because I didn’t want to give it up to get it sized. It’s been so fun thinking about all the details again, thanks for reading bees!
The set up:
Do we look any different as an engaged couple? Ok, probably not 🙂
