I'm confused. You're getting married this July?
WOW. you look amazing in both of them! I honestly dont know which one to vote for!! It sounds like you are already in love with the Vera though :)
Hey there fellow GTA bee!! I think you look amazing in both dresses but considering that the VW gave you that Woot! moment, I think you absolutely need to get that one! Who cares if others have it, it just shows what great taste you have ;)
My only suggestion would to see if you could change the neckline to a sweetheart, because I think its very flattering on you.
@Oneeleven: Oh! I just noticed that! Could've sworn I put in August of 2012 when I signed up. Fixed it just now :)
The Oleg is absolutely stunning on you... soo classic and romantic. I love it more than the first one...but definitely go with what you feel better with.
I think the Oleg is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Of course, that is my taste speaking, and you sound very sure that you want the VW. Go with what makes you (and your FH, in this case) feel best!
@Koala Bear: Oooh a GTA bee! Hello, hello! (Sorry, so giddy from eating too much dark chocolate ice cream <3 PC products haha). I agree, the sweetheart neckline made me look more mature but I'm afraid of messing up the dress! I'm already feeling a sort of mild panic thinking about how much of the hem they're going to chop off the dress (I'm a whopping 4'11", planning to wear the highest heels I could find - a problem for another day), and how the overall look will be changed. There's sooo many layers to that thing! Any recommendations for seamstress in the GTA?
I LOVE the second dress on you.. but the important thing is that YOU love it. If you aren't sure you should keep looking.
The Oleg is GORGEOUS on you. Go try it on again on another day and give it a fair chance :)
I love the vera on you, who cares if it is popular, unless anyone else wears it to your wedding, it is a stunning dress.
I don't like the oleg at all but I hate hate hate mermaid, I wanna push you into the ocean.
You look awesome in both, so I say for for the Vera, the one you obviously love!
@Mrs.H2B: It's the best pic of the Oleg, and the VW pic I have is at a weird angle cuz FI took it, and he's towering a whole foot above my head (FI holds the other pics hostage in his fone). You're right, it's very classic and romantic, except for I never wanted to wear traditional wedding dresses and I felt bullied into buying this one (which I didn't, thank God). I originally had my heart set on one of Suzanne Ermann's ridiculously fun dresses, the first one, that is, so I can show off coloured shoes:
Except I have no idea where to try one on in Toronto.
I will definitely try the Oleg Cassini again, here in my local DB, and compare it to the VW. I have many many months more to go, anyway. :)
@gelaiy: Have you tried dresses anywhere other than DB? I'd definitely do that, at least, before you decide.
@Atalanta: Haha can you imagine someone wearing the blush version of this dress to my wedding?! And another haha for your second comment...actually, yes, please, go ahead and push me into the ocean! :D If only Toronto is anywhere near an ocean, because I love me some sun and sand and sparkling turquoise waters! *daydreams about destination weddings*
@zippylef: I did, yeah, in one of the downtown Toronto stores, with my mum. Tried one on, and stopped looking because the girl helping me was so snotty, and practically shooed me out of the store. That was the very first time I went dress-shopping, and for fun I tried the Paloma Blanca 4116:
It was really pretty, but way over my budget. Also, I kinda looked triangular in that dress for some reason. It accentuated my shoulders too much.
I wasn't gonna go dress shopping for another 4 months or so, and I didn't count DB because I honestly thought I was not gonna get anything from there, just trying on dresses to see which style suits me best. Most importantly, I dreaded gown shopping in general!
The VW looks amazing on you. The Oleg fits you beautifully, but it looks very expected, you know? If you want drama, the unexpected and don't care if it's popular (and who cares if it's popular? 99% of your guests will have never seen it on another bride), go for the VW! You wear it well.
@techie: Hahaha..."drama" and "unexpected" have been used to describe me. So, there! :D
I'll definitely try to keep a cool head about getting the dress though, knowing I might change my mind. Also, maybe it might go on sale later on!
Another q: I tried some sashes with the VW, and the black horsehair one with crysals on the front suited it the best. Now, I know this dress makes a statement all by itself, but have you guys seen it with different sashes? Any advice on this matter? I would need lots of advice in terms of accessories, so thanks in advance!
The Oleg is AWESOME on you. I definitely feel like since you love the Vera so much, there may be a combination of the two dresses out there somewhere with lace and ruffles. I say keep looking, but you look beautiful in both!
@gelaiy: You should check out Etsy. There are some amazingly well made sashes there. :)
I think the Oleg. It looks lovely, plus, that Vera is... well... on a lot of other brides, as you noted.
Hello again, bees! I was just in Paris for a vacation and guess what I did there? Try on my dream dress of course!
I know this is it. It's fun, it's light (I can dance freely whee!), it's whimsical, and SO, SO ME. The only trouble is, it's twice my dress budget @ about 4k CAD. -_- Is that too much? I never thought I'd splurge on the dress but I am absolutely in love with it, and it's so unique (but because of that, so hard to replicate). I'm willing to save for 6 months for it...what do you guys think? Am I insane for wanting this dress?
I think both look fantastic but the Vera definitely consumes you a bit. You are very tiny and I think the Oleg really shows you off. You dont want to be swimming in a big dress. I too tried on the Vera and thought it could be the one but I decided on something else because so many others has this same dress.
Actually waiting til next year is a great idea. Because you will second guess your dress as soon as next years designs come out
@gelaiy: cute for the reception, not so much for the ceremony I think you'd regret it.
I just wanted you to know that I am also 4'11" and small framed (aren't we blessed? lol) I actually chose the Oleg Cassini for my dress because that style just seems to suit our body type the best. It looks great on you too! I love the sweetheart neckline. And to make you feel a little better, I didn't have the WOOT! moment myself either. To be completely honest, I didn't really love it when I bought it, but I grew more and more attached to it as the day got closer. Now I wouldn't trade it for any dress...including a Vera! I think you should definitely go with the OC! Hope this helps... :)
you look gorgeous in both of them - go with your heart - you cant make a wrong decision here as you will look stunning in either.
I'd love to know which dress you ended up choosing. I love the Oleg on you!
I got my dress from DB Mississauga too :)

Hello there, hive!
Finally putting myself out here after months of reading countless posts (hello, everyone *handshakes all around*)
SO! Was driving around with the FI south of Etobicoke (I'm from Toronto, Ontario, great white north Canada), when I thought about visiting the new David's Bridal in Mississauga! I called them up to see if I needed an appointment to pop in, "just to see the new gowns", and the nice lady on the phone said to just come right in, and that I'll probably want to try the dresses on! Now, the only other DB I've visited was in California when I went to visit my MOH who lives there, and I had an awful awful experience (being of the short, skinny, double zero asian frame) with a barely there consultant who kept bringing me dresses that made me look like a child bride :( So embarassing! The only positive thing I learned from that first and horrific experience was that fit n flares/mermaid/trumpet dresses look best on me.
When I got to the store, an hour before closing, I got a consultant only a few minutes into waiting for one because this nice lady decided to help me out instead of going for her break (she's asian too), and that was before she found out we were of the same nationality (okay, nepotism via culture works sometimes), but she was really helpful in getting ONLY the gowns I wanted to try on (the Whites, of course *rolls eyes*), as well as the slips and fluffy underthings. She was respectful, fast, and honest (advised me to get alterations somewhere). Awesome rapport aside, I tried on the increasingly popular VW351011, and here she is!
Sorry for gigantor there. I only have very limited Paint skills. But anyway, I loved how the dress felt on me, and how I actually had boobs, waist AND butt! Which never happens -_- Especially on a poofy number like this. No pins needed, it was my size, just need to shorten the hems a bit. And, FI loved loved loved it! (I know, we don't believe in the can't see the bride before the wedding bit; but he's always tagged along when I went dress shopping, and in fact, all the really good dresses I've found were with him - score with the dress, and score with the man!). I also knew I didn't want anything shiny on me, so the "softness" of the look sold me on the dress. Lastly, I don't care if 1 in 3 brides wear the same dress - I'm just so happy I had an awesome wedding dress shopping experience!
Oh, and just for reference, this was the one other gown I was considering (DB Long Beach), an Oleg Cassini. My MOH loved it, but that's because she loves lace so much. It was merely a meh for me even though I acknowledged that it was a contender, just because I wasn't having a fun time at the time. Love the sweetheart though.
