    Hello!

My fiance and I have found a photographer that we both really love with a great price!  the only issue is....she lives across the United States from us!  Has anyone ever booked a photographer that lived a few thousand miles away?  I love her work but I am very hesitant to book her due to the fact that she lives so far!

    Help!

I have friends that booked photographers like that. You have to have a detailed conversation with the photographer and make sure everything is outlined in the contract.

I think its awesome that you found a photographer whose style you love! Just make sure you have a contingency plan in case something doesnt allow her to get here- and have it written in the contract. You wont want your photographer to fall apart at the last minute! Good luck!!

A friend of mine got married in South Carolina and had a photographer from California, BUT the photog was amazing and a family friend so that helped. Is there anyone closer to you that could do it? It's going to up your costs to fly someone across the country and provide accomodations. If you have the money and really really love this individual than go for it. But there are SO many photographers around the company I would maybe look a little more local before you make any big decision.

As a photographer - it's become quite common for me these days to be booked by someone out of the area. Like was mentioned - definitely have a good detailed conversation - or two - on the phone and get some references too - especially if they have someone that has also booked them from a distance. One thing I talk to my brides about and I would ask them too is about "just in case". Because of how the industry has changed - a lot of us have a great network of other photogs across the country that would step in in case of emergency. Not everyone is on top of that - so it is important to talk about. Also - definitely no flying in the day of the wedding or late the night before - in my opinion. You want to have a little bit of time "just in case" of problems with flights.

Good luck on things - these days there's no reason not to look outside of your area when you find a photographer you really love!
