Hello all, I've been looking through the posts and I'm glad to see brides being very helpful to one another.

I live in England and will be getting married in Baltimore in April 2010.

At the moment I'm desperately looking for a reception venue that will seat 150 people and allow me provide by own catering. My budget is Mid range...about $1500 maximum.

I'll appreciate suggestions as it hasn't been easy looking for a venue via google. My big sis lives in Baltimore and has been tremendiously helpful in going to view the places but we still havent found a suitable place.

I'll be in Baltimore in November to confirm the venue etc myself.

Thanks in advance for your help.

There is a few places but not many in Baltimore, your best bet, might be a church hall. There is a gorgeous Church called St. Johns in Charles Village and their parish hall is stunning and you can self cater and the price is around $320  there is also Kimberly Farms in Dundalk, about 10 minutes from downtown Baltimore that also allows for self catering that is also very pretty and runs I believe $70 and hour. Also there is the new Arts and Entertainment Center in Canton that is brand new they have their own in house chef but can work with any budget.

    Hope that helps.

Some suggestions that are outside of the city - the Other Barn in Columbia (I think it's $700) and this place in River Hill - http://riverhill.columbiavillages.org/gallery/gallery.html. Also Hebron House - http://hebronhouse.mthebronpc.org/yourevent.php.

Inside the city, consider the Enoch Pratt Parish Hall at First Unitarian Church has a full sized kitchen, and might be able to fit 150 people.

PM me if you want pictures of The Other Barn.

This isn't in Baltimore, it's just north of the mason-dixon line, but it's around your budget... I have no idea what type of location you are looking for but I'd check this place out.

Elkridge Furnace Inn is around the price you're looking for, and it's right outside of Baltimore.  Great location - that's where I'm having mine!

    Thanks for the recommendations folks.

I really like the Kahler hall, the price is good and it accomodates up to 220, but it's booked for all of April.

My numbers have increased a bit so I'm looking at 150 and 200 max and the hall costing btw $1500 and $2000. I need a hall that allows external caterers so we can have our ethic traditional food.

The venue needs to be within or near Baltimore County not Baltimore City itself, so Ellicot City, Anne Arundel County, Columbia etc and more like it.

I'm strongly considering one of the Holiday Inns but not sure yet.I will like something a little more elegant and perhapswithin or near a hotel as most of my guests are from out of town.

Have you checked Oakland Manor? It's in columbia and can seat 200 under the tent. You can also bring your own caterer.  It's the venue we ended up using.

Here are the posts I wrote about my venue search which might be able to give you a few ideas.

    Thanks all.

Dorsay I see you're from Columbia! I love to shop there when I'm in MD.

Can you please give me details of the Navy reception halls? I'll like a contact phone number or website, I couldnt find it.
I dont live in MD but will be having our wedding there. Somewhere in the surburbs near Catonsville, BWI, Columbia, Ellicot City or Anne Arundel County.
We need a venue that allows external caterers for ethnic food and preferably a hotel or lodging on site as I have a lot of out of town guests. About 170 is our number.

    Thank you.

    Hi Strawberries,

Here is the link for the O'callaghan hotel - I don't think they let you use another caterer though http://www.ocallaghanhotels.com/USmain/directions.aspx

I also recommend wedding wire to help you in your search just type in a zip code and search http://www.weddingwire.com/shared/Search?l=y&cid=11&geo=21046

Hey there! I have been to at least 3 weddings at this place. So it seems to be a favorite among my friends. http://www.valleycountryclub.com/

I was actually just looking through the pics and saw some of my friend on her wedding day! haha! It was a really nice place. One of the couples got married on the front porch while we sat on the lawn. It was really pretty. Parking lot right there so it won't be a problem. And the food has always been good.

It is in the Timonium/Towson area in Baltimore County.

    Good luck!

I second the Oakland Manor in Columbia. I have been to a wedding there in May and was actually looking at it for my own October wedding (we ended up going with the John Hopkins Evergreen Museum). It really is a beautiful space and they seem to be very easy to work with there. I know the neighboring hotels offer shuttle service to the site for the guests as well!

    Thanks Kay.

Yes indeed. Catering is most important. As long as the venue allows caterers and can accomodate at least 170 with a dance floor in it.

Let me know what other info you require.

Have you checked out the Overhills Mansion in Catonsville? We were thinking of doing the wedding there for a little bit, it's pretty inexpensive (about $50/person). They can hold up to 200 people.

Here's a link if you are interested: http://www.overhillsmansion.com/index.html

There's a lovely old train station that's been converted into a restaurant about 40 minutes away from Baltimore, in Sykesville.  It's called Baldwin's station.  http://www.baldwinsstation.com/

But when I've been there for holiday meals, the service was lackluster.  I'm guessing because it was the holidays, and we weren't paying for a reception.

With the Overhills Mansion, you must use the in house catering. This is a great venue for a Spring and Summer wedding because of all the grounds you get with the mansion rental.

The major concern is the catering, and the specialty food that Strawberries1 would like to have.

What type of special food will you be having?
