So I found the dress while shopping with two of my bridesmaids while on a mini girls trip (yay!) But, my mother who is paying for the dress wants to see it in person before ordering it. No problem there, I’ve booked an appointment at the original salon to try it on again to show her, but she is also extremely against buying the dress out of town (4 hour drive) because of the need for alterations, storage, and order mess-ups, etc. I’ve found a store locally who can order the style, but my mom still is insisting on seeing it in person first. So now I have an appointment to try one specific dress at a store that I have no intention of actually buying the dress from…which makes me feel super awkward and like a terrible person. I personally don’t mind ordering locally if I don’t have to go try this dress on at another store for her first or I wouldn’t mind going to the apt and actually buying the dress out of town, but I also kind of worry about the complications that could arise from doing so. Any advice? Would there be any way to keep the apt to show my mom, but order locally that wouldn’t make me feel guilty and keep it from being awkward?

Maybe you could buy something from the out of town bridal shop, like an accessory they have there on-site.
That way you bought something from them and don’t have to feel guilty.

Is your mom local? If so, I would just cancel the appointment and take her to the local store.

I like the idea of buying at least something there – that might help. My fiance also suggested writing a thank you card to the consultant and with sort of an appologie and a tip for her help in finding “the” dress.
@MrsBeck The only problem is that no local store carries the style as a sample. They carry the designer and are able to order the dress for me to purchase, but not try on. I wouldn’t be able to show my mom until it comes in or at the first fitting.

I bought my dress while visiting my mother 16 hours away and it is a huge hassle. I wouldn’t do it again.
I’m having to search for someone to do all the alterations locally because I dont want to HAVE to go back there 2 or 3 times and then worry about it.
I also felt bad because at first I really loved a different dress at a local salon, so I did go and buy a headpiece from them and I”m trying to work with them to find a veil. I still haven’t had the heart to tell them that I found a different dress though… but it was discontinued and they didn’t have the sample anymore and so I had to buy it at my moms.
